Forever A Believer (a Wedding Videographer's Darling)

Forever A Believer (a Wedding Videographer's Darling)
First off, I have been using the GH line since the GH2 back in the day. Of course, when the 5 was announced, I already had an idea of what I would get with the trusted metabones and sigma 18-35 combo, and it absolutely delivers...However, there is something special about this lens, that puts it in a league of all it's own. I'm not even sure if the other noktons share this distinct quality - and i'm not just talking about the creamy soft skin tones as well as sharp, sharp attention to detail (although, it should be noted, I don't ever go below f2 - unless i really, really have to, and for some sparkler exits at weddings, I have had to, even when lit properly. And somehow I get enough in-focus footage to make it through. Your mileage may vary)There is a certain highlight rolloff (and extra durability in highlights, not the same as if your video were like a raw photo but still, I feel like there is more to bring back certainly than with the sigmas) and a cinematic color rendering that, IMO, you just can't get in any other lens, whether thats adapted or not. Perhaps the zeiss lenses come closest, the old school ones, but even still. Not to say its as sharp as sigmas or crystal clear from corner to corner like canon L glass... but it just feels, different. Special. Many say this lens has "character", but they use that as an excuse to say its soft. It certainly can be, and it can be extremely sharp. If you are the type of videographer/photographer that leaves your lenses on the lowest possible f stop just because you think that equates it's top dollar value, this lens is not for you. If you have an understanding that different lenses produce different looks, this lens might be for you.I certainly wouldn't do a music video with it, unless it were r&b or softer music or something and called for those tones. I tried it for a street-vibe rap video and I laughed at myself, it jst didnt work, and the sigmas were called off the bench. But if you do weddings, let me tell you, you are hard pressed to find anything better. All in my opinion, of course.
