What's in the box
From the manufacturer
The X-H1 is the highest performing camera in the X Series lineup, with a newly-designed robust and durable body. The X-H1 incorporates a range of useful features that support shooting in various scenarios by professional photographers, videographers and experienced amateur photographers. These features include not only the first-ever X Series camera with 5-axis in-body image stabilization, which has a maximum of 5.5 stops, but also a flicker reduction mode which enhances the quality of indoor sports photography.

---|---|---|---|
X-Trans CMOS III SensorThe FUJIFILM X-H1 features the 24.3MP APS-C sensor "X-Trans CMOS III", which delivers images with enriched depth. The use of aperiodic color filter array minimizes moiré and false colors even without an optical low-pass filter. When combined with XF lenses, specifically designed for this series of cameras, the sensor achieves outstanding descriptive performance. |
X-Processor ProThe "X-Processor Pro" is a processing engine that draws out the maximum capability of the "X-Trans CMOS III" high-performance sensor. Its use of large built-in memory and advanced processing power boost the camera's speed and precision performance in interval shooting, shutter release time lag, AF, continuous shooting, live view display, etc. The processor also supports the Boost Mode for the vertical power booster grip, VPB-XH1, enhancing the camera's performance to another level |
AutofocusThe FUJIFILM X-H1 boasts autofocus performance with enhanced capability to track a moving subject. With 91 focus points (up to 325 points), the camera has a phase detection AF area that covers 50% (side to side) and 75% (top to bottom) of the frame to achieve fast and accurate autofocus. The phase detection's AF range has been expanded by 1.5 stops from the previous 0.5EV to -1EV, while the minimum aperture requirement is also improved from F8 to F11. Enhanced AF-C performance during zooming means the camera can handle sports with erratic subject movements, and capture a subject with fine textures such as a distant animal, with an advanced level of precision. |
AF-C Custom SettingThe FUJIFILM X-H1 offers three user-adjustable parameters for determining focusing characteristics to make it easier to accurately track a moving subject in the AF-C Mode. There are presets to suit different types of scenes, or you can determine your own custom setting. SET 1 - Basic SET 2 - Ignoring obstacles SET 3 - Accelerating / decelerating subjects SET 4 - Subjects that suddenly come into the frame SET 5 - Erratically moving subjects SET 6 - Custom |

---|---|---|---|
AF Operation SystemsThe FUJIFILM X-H1 features a Focus Lever for quickly changing focus point selection in eight directions. You can intuitively move the focus point while keeping your eye on the viewfinder (or by touch panel operation on the rear LCD monitor). The dedicated "AF-ON" button is positioned where your right thumb is placed, so that the focus point can be adjusted with the thumb, while the index finger can concentrate on delicate shutter release actions. |
Tough and Durable Camera BodyThe FUJIFILM X-H1's body is made of magnesium alloy, 25% thicker than previous models. The lens mount's structure has been revised to achieve a compact and lightweight design that is also of high precision and more resistant to shock or damage than other models in the X Series. It is also resistant to dust and moisture, capable of working at temperatures as low as -10°C. The grain size of the exterior coating has been improved to achieve scratch resistance equivalent to 8H surface hardness. |
New In-Body Image StabilizationFor the first time in the X Series, the FUJIFILM X-H1 has an image stabilization mechanism built in. A three-axis accelerometer, a three-axis gyro sensor and a dedicated dual processor work together to carry out processing and correction approximately 10,000 times every second to achieve image stabilization performance with advanced speed and precision. The correction is based on five axes (up and down / right and left pitch, yaw angle and optical axis rotation) to achieve more than five-stop (up to the equivalent of 5.5 stops* ) image stabilization when the camera is fitted with any FUJINON lens that does not feature the optical image stabilization functionality. This complements FUJIFILM X-H1's performance in low-light conditions or when shooting active scenes. *When using the XF35mmF1.4 R |
New Feather-Touch Shutter ButtonThe FUJIFILM X-H1 is equipped with the new feather-touch shutter button that can respond to delicate shutter release actions to capture all photographic opportunities. When combined with the firm-hold design of the grip, the shutter button controls camera shake for fast-response operability. |

---|---|---|---|
Electronic ViewfinderThe FUJIFILM X-H1 has a large, class-leading 3.69-million-dot high-resolution electronic viewfinder with the magnification ratio of 0.75x, boasting a display time lag of just 0.005 sec, and a refresh rate of up to 100fps. It is approximately 1.6 times brighter than previous models, enabling subject capture and focus adjustment with greater precision. The eye sensor, for automatically switching between rear monitor display and viewfinder display, responds around 2 times faster than previous models for enhanced usability. |
Rear LCDThe rear 3.0-inch 1.04-million-dot LCD monitor can be tilted by 90 degrees upwards, 45 degrees downwards and 60 degrees to the right for easy high-angle / low-angle / vertical low-angle shooting. The use of the capacitive touch panel facilitates intuitive touch-screen operations for focus point selection, etc. |
Film SimulationWith Film Simulations, you can apply colors and tones that match your artistic intentions to your pictures, as if choosing different special effect photographic films. The FUJIFILM X-H1 comes with sixteen Film Simulation modes, which Fujifilm has uniquely created based on the color-presentation philosophy and know-how the company has developed through more than 80 years of photo film production. |
New Film Simulation "ETERNA"The FUJIFILM X-H1 features the "ETERNA" mode, a new Film Simulation mode suitable for video recording, simulating the output of cinematographic films. Characterized by subdued color presentations and rich shadow tones, this mode can be used at 400% Dynamic Range (equivalent to approximately 12 stops) to attain video recording with a high degree of perfection while substantially reducing color-grading workload in post processing. |

---|---|---|---|
DCI 4K(4096x2160)The X-H1 supports the digital cinema aspect ratio (17:9), and records high-quality video at a high bit rate of 200 Mbps. You can use the highest ISO 25600, a low shutter speed of 1/4 sec, and even Film Simulation modes in video, enabling diverse video expressions. A premium sound microphone (24bit / 48KHz) is built in, which means you don't need extra equipment to record sound in high-resolution quality. High dynamic range "F-Log" log-gamma option The dynamic range "F-Log" log-gamma option* is available for recording and uncompressed output to external equipment. It supports "color grading," which refers to post-shooting processing of colors and tones for artistic videography. The long-awaited addition of the Film Simulation lookup table (for ETERNA) has increased freedom in post-processing. * The color gamut is ITU-R BT.2020 compliant. |
High-speed video recordingThe FUJIFILM X-H1 supports 120p / 100p high-speed video recording (Full HD, 2x / 4x / 5x slow motion), creating slow-motion video with an artistic impact, broadening your scope of videographic expressions. Silent video operation The Silent Video Operation function allows you to control settings such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO sensitivity and white balance with silent touch-panel operations on the rear monitor, preventing the camera from picking up operation noise from buttons and dials during video recording. |
Remote shootingThe FUJIFILM X-H1 supports remote shooting, using a smartphone or tablet*. You can use your smart device to check preview, control shooting settings, and view / transfer photographs taken. Wireless communications The FUJIFILM X-H1 can be paired up with a computer, tablet or smartphone via Bluetooth** to maintain constant connectivity for automatic transfer of photographs as you shoot. * You must install the free app "FUJIFILM Camera Remote" on your smart device to use this function. ** The Bluetooth word mark and logos are registered trademarks owned by the Bluetooth SIG, Inc. and any use of such marks by FUJIFILM Corporation is under license. |
Flickering reductionThe FUJIFILM X-H1 has the Flickering Reduction function for controlling exposure and color instability caused by flickering of AC-powered fluorescent lights. The function detects light flicker rate and automatically controls shutter timing to coincide with peak brightness, thereby achieving exposure stability in indoor sports photography (except when using the electronic shutter). |

1) This camera is BIG. Especially after using the tiny X-T20 for quite some time. This might be a negative to some, especially if you have smaller hands, but I actually quite like the size, especially when pairing this camera with larger lenses like the XF 50-140, or even the Viltrox 85mm. But know that this is a big camera, with a nice deep grip (much larger grip than any of their other cameras).
2) IBIS is excellent. I have gotten usable handheld footage from this camera with the XF 50-140, and sharp low-light pictures handheld with slow shutter speeds (with still subjects, of course). Low light images of moving subjects will still be blurry, obviously.
3) I have read many complaints about the missing exposure compensation dial, but that is a silly complaint. With the latest firmware, you can set one of the back dials to adjust the exposure (without holding any additional buttons). This really shouldn't stop you from buying this camera.
4) Autofocus is generally good, but definitely NOT on the level of the X-T3. If you have used the X-T20 or the X-T2, the autofocus performs more or less the same. The X-T3 (and I assume the newer cameras like the X-T30 or X-pro3) have superior autofocus speed, and much better face/eye detect. So if autofocus is your priority over IBIS, I would recommend the X-T3 or newer. However, the autofocus of the X-H1 (and X-T20) has always been good enough for me.
5) Yes, the battery life is terrible. If you are using this without the grip, make sure you have a few spare batteries on hand. Not really a big deal to me, as I always carry a few spares but I know it is important to many. Although I will say it was nice to be able to use all of my old batteries from the previous cameras.
6) Eterna is awesome. I shoot with the default Provia film simulation most of the time for stills, with occasional Classic Chrome, but Eterna is amazing for video, especially if you need/want to save time. Videos look great straight out of the camera without much need for tweaking. LOVE IT.
7) The shutter release is polarizing, and I can see how many people hate it, but I love it. It has a really, REALLY soft touch and is amazingly quiet. It did take some getting used to coming from the X-T20 and the X-T3, but now I really love it.
For what this camera can do, and the fact that it includes the battery grip, it is a crazy good deal. I have the X-T3 as well, and I usually end up carrying the X-H1 with me (although both cameras are exceptional). I avoided this camera for the longest time because of many negative reviews, but I couldn't pass up trying it out when the price dropped a second time. I'm glad I did, because I really love it.
Video performance, by the way, is excellent, though you'll want a fast SD card. This may be the body that unlocks the ultimate potential of my Fuji glass. Finding just the right settings takes some work, but the results are stunning. I consider the professional video quality a bonus but it's an open door to creative possibilities.
I'm not crazy about the PC Auto Save application on OS X and am still working on the ideal workflow. The bluetooth integration is really just a hook for the wireless connection. Camera to phone works reasonably well over the temporary FUJIFILMXH1... wireless network. The issues I see are with connecting the phone to a desktop or laptop. Performance there is slow, but I haven't dug too deep and it could be a local network issue. It's still a 5+ camera for me, and I'm confident any issues around wireless can be addressed via firmware updates.
I will say right at the outset that this is the most amazing camera of the fuji lineup that I have purchased and I have had all of their previous flagship models starting with the X100T and Xpro 1, Xpro 2, Xt-1&2, etc. It came in a large box, and although the battery grip was included, I thought Oh Oh, this is going to be a beast. Fact of the matter is that it was not significantly larger than my xt2. Secondly the EVF is amazing amazing amazing. It is set back more than any other Fuji camera so that your nose is not pressing against the LCD , and well, I no longer use the LCD except for setting up the menu etc. It has a touch screen that I will probably not use, nor will I be using the video side of the camera (never have and never will in any of my previous cameras). And so I can not comment on those features. But what I can say is that with IBIS, a SUPERB Grip (finally!!!) and abundant customization options via the menu system (which I find most accommodating!) it is a great stills camera. The one thing that stuck out like a sore thumb however was where they put the Q button, right on the back of the camera where your thumb goes...and I kept tripping the Q button menu. I do not use this feature on my previous cameras and so I was close to trying to put tape over it or disable it some other way. But then reading thru the manual i discovered that there is a very simple way to selectively lock specific function buttons incl the Q button. Phenomenal Fuji!!
Thus for around $1000 (I notice price creeping up) this is THE camera to get, complete with battery grip which holds two additional batteries (provided) and enables you to have BOOST mode for faster everything.
And other little things like the new camera strap that Fuji included. Not the thin throw away strap of the past but an wide, comfortable, grippy shoulder strap that is quite attractive as well.
Fuji is also well known for listening to its consumers and has offered several firmware updates to this camera since it came out.
As with all of the Fuji line up, the camera takes great images, has some great film simulations at your disposal, and is now also using Bluetooth to synch with the Fuji Remote App which is also quite cool for transferring images to your smartphone and or shooting the camera remotely.

La cámara genera una sensación de siempre quererla tener en la mano, ergonómica de dimensiones preferidas para dos manos lo cual da soporte. Muy pronto aún, pero XH2 será un monstruo.
Ive used this on portraiture work and thanks to the x trans III sensor and X Processor Pro chip I can squeeze out the same awesome RAW files and JPEGS as I can from my beloved XT2.
The IBIS (In Body Image Stabilization) is really the only reason I would purchase this for. After a few quick test shots I found that I was able to hand hold in low light circumstances at 1/8th shutter speeds and get rather sharp images. This was an exciting moment.
Even working with models just get them to slowly move and hold still and shooting below 1/50 is plausible now. To be able to shoot with 100 or 200 ISO for ultra clean images in lowlight is incredible.
My hands are rather small so I did find the body a bit too large though (I definitely see why people prefer the smaller and more portable XT2).
The batter life is also noticeably shorter compared to the XT2 but not by a large margin.
All in all I would recommend this camera to dedicated FUJIFILM shooters who have extra cash lying around as this aint cheap.
