Enhancing the quality of photographyRich colors and subtle shades, beautiful bokeh and a well-defined sense of depth. When the photographer's inspiration is truly reflected in all these elements, photographs will become more than mere records - they will evolve into truly impressive works of art. |
Capture Eye Catching MasterpiecesCreated as the flagship model that will fulfill this goal. It features a new, advanced image-processing system to deliver the beautiful image quality which all photographers demand. It produces images that are rich in color and gradation, high in resolution, and superb in bokeh rendition. |
Expand the boundaries of creativityA camera is not just a tool for recording images, it is also a tool for expressing yourself. When your creativity is in complete harmony with the camera, your photography will truly come alive. PENTAX creates cameras with personal expression as the ultimate function. |
Capture the moment everytimeThe act of seeing the actual light gathered by the lens. As if the viewfinder has become one with the eye, the subject and photographer face each other. That is the true joy of the SLR camera. To take this joy with you into the outdoors, the camera should be as small and light as possible. |
The Flagship Model
The K-1II is packed with features such as the 35mm Full Frame sensor, improved ISO sensitivity, GPS, Shake Reduction II, and Dynamic Pixel Shift Resolution, only to name a few; this model lends itself naturally to the most challenging of environments.
State-of-the-art imaging processing system
To reproduce lively colours and rich gradations, the PENTAX K-1 Mark II incorporates a new accelerator unit, which efficiently processes image signals output by the image sensor before sending them to the imaging engine is process upgrades both image resolution and colour reproduction in a high-sensitivity range, while drastically reducing noise compared to the PENTAX K-1. It also helps bring the camera’s top sensitivity up to ISO 819200 (at standard output sensitivity) for high-grade, super-high-sensitivity photography.
Five-axis, five-shutter-step camera shake compensation
The PENTAX shake reduction mechanism has been upgraded to provide optimum compensation for all lenses used in handheld shooting. The new-generation SR II (Shake Reduction II) features a five-axis mechanism to compensate for camera shake caused by horizontal and vertical shift* (often generated in macro photography) and camera shake caused by roll, which is difficult to handle by lens-installed shake reduction mechanisms, in addition to more common camera shake caused by pitch and yaw. The SR II unit is controlled with great precision as soon as the camera's power is turned on, and provides a wide compensation range - as much as five shutter steps** - to expand the limits of handheld shooting.
Pixel Shift Resolution System II
This technology utilises the full image resolving power and colour reproduction far better than that of the conventional Bayer system. By taking advantage of the camera’s SR mechanism, it captures four images of the same scene by slightly shifting the image sensor for each image, obtaining all RGB color data and luminance data from each pixel, then synthesizing them into a single, super-high-resolution composite image. It not only improves image resolving power, but also prevents the generation of false color, reduces high-sensitivity noise, and greatly improves image quality. This can now be achieved without the need for a tripod.
Dependable dustproof, weather-resistant construction
A combination of the K-1 Mark II’s 87 sealing parts and the optional D-BG6 Battery Grip’s watertight body prevents the intrusion of water and dust into their interior. When an AW- or WR-series lens is mounted, the K-1 Mark II and its lens forms a remarkable digital imaging system totally resistant to demanding environmental factors. Anticipating use in cold locations, PENTAX has subjected the K-1 Mark II to exacting environmental tests at temperatures as low as –10°C
K-Mount Since 1975
The PENTAX K-Mount which has been used in PENTAX SLR's since 1975. This means that you can use any K-Mount lens with the PENTAX K-1II. The functionality will vary as technology has moved on since then but provides the perfect opportunity to try out your old lenses.

Pentax was late to the game for serious digital photography, and I was no longer working as a professional, so I indulged in some Canon Powershots that were good - but never felt exactly right.
A couple of years ago I got a Pentax K3 II, for a number of reasons (including shooting my kids sporting events and some serious overseas travel) and fell in love all over again. My K mount lens collection grows, and I really miss my old 85mm f1.8 portrait lens, but the quality of modern zooms is amazing. The ergonomics are stellar, as before.
In legendary Houston flooding and 1" an hour storms, the K3 weather sealing held up just fine as did the lenses that claim weather sealing.
I decided to go for the K1-II as there is finally a full frame camera with the Pentax ergonomics, weather sealing like the K3, and improved pixel shift.
I will simply say that the quality is outstanding. Comparing night time 6-man football photographs (I swear the lighting is a couple of 100 watt bulbs at either end of the field) between the K1-II and K3 you can see the lower noise and higher quality of the K1-II. Putting the K1-II in APS-C mode means you give up full frame, but the improved sensor still gives higher quality than the K3. Another plus for action is your 300mm lens becomes 450mm using APS-C mode, and at the same time the sensor gives better results. It's a win all the way around.
As for battery life, I used my 2 year old batteries from the K3 in the K1-II just to test. A full night of shooting, over 300 photos, and the battery still had not gone down 1 notch. I call that impressive.
The K1-II can hold its own against any camera.
The first photo (players in white and blue) was made using the Pentax K1-II and Pentax 55-300mm zoom lens at 108mm, 1/400 sec, f4.5 using APS-C mode. ASA 25600, that is twenty-five thousand six hundred. The second photo (two blue players) is the K3 II, same lens, 115mm, 1/640 sec, f5.6, ASA 25600. No retouching or cropping. Lighting on the (same) field is minimal. The lower noise on the K1-II is apparent.
