1” Stacked back-illuminated Exmor RS CMOS SensorThis large 1” (1.0-type) stacked back illuminated Exmor RS image sensor with BIONZ X image processing engine not only enhances efficiency and speed of A/D (analogue to digital) conversion through its stacked structure with more circuit sections; it also realizes super-fast readout speed. Additionally, the back illumination technology increases light collection efficiency and reduces noise in shots taken at up to ISO 12,800. |
24mm F4 ZEISS Tessar T lensThe 24mm1 F4 ZEISS Tessar T lens delivers high-resolution images with less image distortion in peripheral areas, despite its wide-angle lens design. Improved minimum focusing distance is 7.9” (20cm), optimal for selfies and close-up shots. Employing 6 elements in 6 groups including 6 aspheric elements - this ZEISS lens intensifies recordings’ contrast and sharpness. Furthermore, you can capture improved images and suppress occurrence of ghosts and flare by using an optional hood8. 1 35mm equivalent 8 Supplied as a part of VFA-305R1 Filter Adaptor Kit. |
Advanced BIONZ X image processing engineThe RX0 II premium lens and sensor are complimented by the high-speed Sony BIONZ X image processing engine that powers conversion of light captured by the sensor, rendering photos and movies with natural details, realism, richer tonal gradations and low noise. Internal 4K recording8 is now possible due to the performance of BIONZ X which has been increased by a factor of about 1.8 compared to the previous RX0. In addition, face and Eye AF speed have been improved along with increased buffer when shooting multiple images continuously. 8 Supplied as a part of VFA-305R1 Filter Adaptor Kit. |

Internal 4K movie with image stabilizationThe RX0 II offers 4K (3840x2160) 24p/30p internal movie recording8with electronic image stabilization and full pixel readout with no pixel binning to collect approximately 1.7 times the amount of data required for 4K video. This oversampling reduces the appearance of moiré and jaggies and delivers smooth, high quality 4K footage with exceptional detail and depth. Using the Sony Imaging Edge mobile application and Movie Edit add-on app, this footage can be transferred to a smartphone, edited, and shared easily across social networks. Even the image stabilization can be enhanced as the Movie Edit add-on app utilizes gyro information captured while shooting. Uncompressed 4K is also available via HDMI output and compatible recording devices. 8 Supplied as a part of VFA-305R1 Filter Adaptor Kit. |
Compact robust designThe RX0 II’s extra rigid super duralumin body and ultra-compact dimensions make great shots easier to take even in the toughest situations. Weighing in at only 0.30 lb. and measuring a miniscule 2.375” x 1.625” x 1.1875”, the RX0II is also waterproof2 down to 33 ft (10m) without underwater housing and shockproof3 to impact of drops to the ground from heights up to 6.5 ft. (2m). The highly reliable, robust RX0 II is also crushproof4 under weights up to 200kgf / 440 lbf / 2000N. 2 Waterproof down to 33 ft (10m) without underwater housing. The minimum focusing distance increases underwater, causing angle of view to narrow. 3 When dropped onto plywood that is 5cm/2 in. thick from heights up to 6.5ft. Conforms to MIL-STD-810G 516.7 shock test (U.S. Military Standard). 4 Cannot absolutely protect against damage to or malfunction of, or absolutely ensure waterproof/dustproof/shockproof/crushproof performance of this camera, depending on conditions and circumstances of use. |
15.3MP5 up to 16fps continuous shootingDespite its 15.3MP5 high pixel count, the super-high-speed image sensor boosts readout speed to the extent that the camera can achieve continuous shooting up to 16fps6. This lets you capture moments of fleeting beauty or facial expressions in an instant. 6 In Speed Priority Continuous mode. Focus and exposure settings fixed at first shot |

Advanced video features and mic in jackDesirable filmic looks are available with Picture Profiles which determine the character of movies by changing basic parameters like chromogenic effects and gradation adjustment. S-Log2 is a proprietary gamma setting from Sony that is invaluable for professionals seeking post-production flexibility, and extends the dynamic range of recording to reduce occurrence of blown-out highlights and black crush. Time code is also included which greatly aids in synchronizing cameras in multi-camera shooting. The RX0 II also features a mini microphone input jack which enhances audio through optional external microphones and a Proxy Recording setting that captures a smaller proxy file for faster sharing and editing. |
A creative tool from every angleMiniature dimensions and all-around versatility maximize your freedom to take and use the RX0 II effortlessly anywhere in creative ways — especially with other RX0 II cameras spread around to shoot from various perspectives. Properly-aligned multiple RX0 II cameras can be used together for creative setups from multi-camera angles, 3D, bullet-time to light-field arrays and even volumetric, thanks to the camera’s minimal symmetric design and synchronized connectivity. On its own or as part of a full-scale multi-camera system, the RX0 II can extend imaginations and open eyes to unprecedented recording possibilities. |

Love the quality of build, you can literally kick this thing like a football and it won't get crushed or damaged. Sony has built a great durable one piece housing. The sensor is it's key and top positive. The door for the SD card and other options is a bit odd and easy to lose. The cover may be the weakest part of this camera. Love the flip up display but for a camera this size it loses it's advantage.
For starters, this is not a GoPro or a typical action camera. This is a camera that can perform more manual functions than anything like a typical action cam. For example, I shoot real estate properties, and this little guy can shoot bracketed photos in wet weather that I can then edit in photoshop later on. A GoPro can’t do that, nor does it have a sensor large enough to produce the kind of images that this camera can produce.
It does have limitations, but it’s tiny. It’s a trade off. Overall, this is an excellent, compact Sony rig that will give you that “Sony 4k” video look that you cannot get from an action cam. The one inch sensor does fairly well in low light.
I’d say this is a tool for more experienced photographers and videographers. Also, let me correct one thing I keep seeing: you CAN turn the LCD screen back on while shooting. Just press the “enter” button. By default, most small cameras will turn off the screen after about a minute, to save battery life. This one is no exception, but you can turn it right back on if needed, just like a GoPro.
Buy this if you need something small, weatherproof and rugged, with the ability to shoot similarly to an Alpha or RX séries camera.
For an action-cam, it's too limited. Abysmal battery life on its own, and no way to extend the battery life while keeping it waterproof. As a remote/perspective cam it's crippled by the fact that you CAN NOT CONTROL 4K RECORDING OF THIS CAMERA FROM YOUR SMARTPHONE! The "Ctrl f/Smartphone" function is disabled when set to 4K recording, and the only way to enable it is it drop it to FHD recording. But even if you get set it up for 4K recording, the camera will overheat and shut down after 20-25 minutes... just short of the battery giving out.
The limited footage it produces is good. However, it's too limited for me. The waterproof bit is useless if I can't take it snorkeling for a couple of hours without risking salt-water ingress while swapping batteries. I can't set it up as a remote camera, because there's no way to start/stop recording without physically touching the camera - and I can't leave it recording, even with USB power, for extended periods of time, because it will overheat and shut down.
But then, if I want a good camera for short 4K clips, I can just use my phone. For action cams, there are other brands ("pro" or amateur) which have more accessories available, including waterproof housing with extended battery life.
Disappointed (and returning)
