About this item
- Consisting of 16 elements in 12 groups, the FUJINON XF16-80mmF4 R OIS WR Lens also features one aspherical element that is specially designed to minimize field curvature and spherical aberration.
- A small, compact, and versatile lens for any shooting situation - Covering an effective focal range from 24mm to 120mm, the FUJINON XF16-80mmF4 R OIS WR weighs just 15. 5 oz. (440 g) and is only 3. 5in (88. 9mm) long. This makes it approximately 40% lighter than similar, traditional 35mm system lenses, which means it won’t weigh you down when you’re spending an entire day looking to capture that perfect moment.
- Push the limits with 6. 0 stops of Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) - As if extending the possibilities of hand-held capture with 6. 0 stops of CIPA-Rated Optical Image Stabilization wasn’t enough, the FUJINON XF16-80mmF4 R OIS WR lens can also absorb vibrations from the camera shutter. The OIS can also detect when the camera is being used with a tripod and adjust its performance to provide optimum image quality.
- Quick, responsive, and near-silent autofocus - Having fast and quiet autofocus is critical when you’re roaming the streets looking for that perfect image. That’s why we made sure this lens uses the right motors to accurately drive focusing elements.
- Weather resistant to keep the images coming - Working in dusty or damp conditions is a breeze with this lens since it is weather sealed in ten places along the barrel. This also makes it capable of operating in temperatures down to 14°F (-10°C), which means you can go chase down that image and have some peace of mind while you’re doing it.

What's in the box
From the manufacturer
Fujinon XF16-80mm F4 R OIS WR
FUJINON XF16-80mmF4 R OIS WR has a maximum aperture value of F4 throughout the focal length of 16-80mm (equivalent to 24-122mm in the 35mm film format). This lens has a minimum shooting distance of 35 cm over the entire zoom range, which gives a maximum shooting magnification of 0.25x. The compact and lightweight lens weighs only 440g which is approximately 40% lighter than an equivalent lens for a 35mm format system. When attached to an X-T3 the kit weighs only 979g and 823g when combined with X-T30, making it the ultimate travel combination. This new standard zoom lens features 6.0-stop OIS, meaning you can comfortably shoot in a wide variety of situations from a night scene or indoors without worrying about camera shake.
Advanced image quality
The lens consists of 16 elements in 12 groups, including three aspherical lens elements and one ED aspherical lens. The aspherical lens elements are controlled at high precision to reduce field curvature and spherical aberration, resulting in an advanced level of image sharpness across the frame. By using an ED aspherical lens as a OIS lens, aberration fluctuation due to image stabilization is suppressed. In addition, This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 35 cm close-up photography over the entire zoom range. The lens has very little breathing making it suitable for movie shooting.
Compact, lightweight and stylish design for superior operability
- The compact 5x zoom lens weighs just 440g for excellent portability. In addition, the total length is the compact size of 88.9 mm. Approximately 40% lighter than a full size 5x zoom lens
- Metal aspects of the exterior achieve a stylish look that gives additional quality and durability
- The zoom, aperture and focus rings have just the right amount of torque for better handling
Powerful OIS
The camera automatically detects when it is fixed to a tripod or when panning, and adjusts accordingly.
Fast and silent autofocus
The lens uses the internal focus AF system that drives smaller and lighter focusing elements. It uses a stepping motor, known for its quiet operation and accuracy, to achieve fast and silent autofocus.
Advanced construction
The lens barrel is sealed at 10 locations making the lens dust and weather resistant and capable of operating at temperatures as low as -10°C. Mounting it on weather resistant mirrorless digital cameras such as X-Pro2, X-T1, X-T2, X-T3 and X-H1 allows you to shoot in light rain or a dusty environment outdoors with peace of mind.

At 16mm this is very sharp. Every Fujifilm lens is sharp, and I've heard every reviewer claim that each different lens is the 'sharpest'. But I think the secret to Fujifilm lenses is that they are all the sharpest. At 80mm this is very sharp.
At F4 this lets in enough light and with IS (if you have a camera with IBIS), you are given a lot of freedom to use slower shutter speeds in low light conditions. My F2 primes have the exact same problems this lens does in low light conditions. The autofocus is weak in low light. This is a flaw in most Fujifilm cameras and lenses, not specific to this lens. You won't notice any difference from any of your other lenses in terms of autofocus power.
I am using this on the X-T30 and the X-T4. And it is my current go-to lens. I am considering the XF 70-300mm to replace the XC 50-230, but that's a discussion for another review.
But with this lens, I can do 90% of my shooting. The autofocus is solid and the control rings are well made. The lens hood is a bit big, and I question if anyone really uses them correctly. And when in the storage position (backwards mounted) it blocks the manual focus ring. That's my only complaint, and since I don't use the hood often not even a strong complaint.
I’ve been pleasantly surprised.
In comparing the 16-80 to my 18-55. Overall, the 16-80 has slightly better image quality on focal lengths they share. The 16-80 is sharper and has better contrast and better OIS.
In comparing to my beloved 10-24mm, overall the 16-80 is about equal. At 16mm, the 16-80 is slightly sharper in the center, and the 10-24 is slightly sharper in the corners. At 18 to 24mm, they’re about equal, with the 16-80 again generally a smidge sharper in the center and the 10-24 a hair sharper in the corners.
Overall, I’ve been very impressed with image quality.
The 16-80 is not overly heavy, is compact, has great OIS, and terrific build quality with water resistance. It’s my new favorite.
What I would say is make sure you get a good copy and make sure it’s working right and firmware is up to date. I had to return one (not to Amazon) and then had to update to see the best results. Old firmware had some issues.
I’ve used this lens to shoot landscapes and parties professionally and have not regretted buying it at all.

But at the perfect conditions (in this case, I would say that landscape and travel photography) you will get sharp and high quality images.
