U. S. A.? iF YOU USE AT&T, GET XT2041-4 INSTEAD.
I bought this because my G4 has been out of support for too long, and the battery is failing. I *thought* I was buying a "global" phone that would work on GSM networks even in the U.S. and the price seemed right. Well, not long after I bought it, I saw an article that AT&T is telling people to "buy a new phone." Wouldn't affect me, because this phone is new. Boy, was I wrong.
AT&T is going to start requiring that phones on their network have HD Voice capability, but this one doesn't, and when I go to AT&T's website, they don't mention this phone in their list of supported models.
This model is advertised as "global" as long as you use GSM. On the other hand, the XT2041-4 is clearly advertised as "global."
It's going back to Amazon, and I'm getting the right G8 Power for the U.S.A. Maybe this was a SNAFU, but I'm still not at all happy about it. They want it by August 13th; I hope that have the decency to extend that deadline if I need it!
Mid range specs and camera is more than satisfactory for me and my lifestyle.
Being able to charge my phone and get 3 days worth of battery life is reassuring and getting 2 days or day and a half with heavy use is going to be very hard to go back to when I eventually do get another phone after this .
I will post one con and that is I was unable to get WIFI 5G ( t-mobile nyc)
Let's start with the battery life. This is a 5,000 mAh battery phone. You would think and it is promised that this phone will last 2 to 3 days, it barely last one day. Battery starts draining as soon as you take it off the charger. My previous pixel 3 XL would last for 2 days with the same programs installed. Something is apparently wrong with the battery on this phone and I will be returning it. I will not buy another Motorola international model. Complaint number 2. Apparently every website thinks that I speak Spanish... All of the ads that pop up are in Spanish so apparently this phone was made for the Latin American region. An irritating side effect of buying this phone... Complaint number three. The display on this phone makes my eyes go blurry after viewing my phone for more than 30 minutes. I have tinkered with the display settings and nothing seems to work to make it any better. Complaint number four . When you shake the phone to turn on the flashlight you cannot do the same and shut the flashlight off you have to go into the program settings and shut it off there. Complaint number five, this phone is not truly unlocked, carrier can control how you use your Wi-Fi and does not allow Wi-Fi sharing or internet connection sharing. Complaint number six, phone signal is poor, every other phone I have utilized would give me great signal in the same places that I use this one, however this one only gives me a fraction of the signal. Complaint number seven, if using Bluetooth to answer your call, the screen locks and you cannot switch it to speaker. Complaint number eight, phone does not allow live connection to Android auto. You must restart the phone in order for it to pair to a connection with Android auto. Complaint number nine, the screen does something weird when you try to select something on a website or Facebook and make the phone go back to the start of the screen, (the point that you started with a website). Complaint number phone is laggy period when you try to switch between programs or if you have too many programs open the phone will stall and freeze. All of my older phones were able to keep up yet this model struggles with basic features. Sometimes you get lucky and get a good phone that doesn't have any issues, sometimes you get a phone like this one and it just soils the experience for you completely. I had high hopes for this phone and I was disappointed.

This phone is amazing has a ton! Of cool features like a bunch I still have more to go through. screen shot with three fingers simple, it has a long scrolling screen shot to capture a full page with added editing right away which I love.
The camera is adjustable if it seems blurry at first just fool around with the settings. However you shouldn't be disappointed with the camera since you already know this phone was meant for battery🔋power. It has tons of settings though that are easy to figure out, and the macro zoom in is pretty cool zooms in really far Also taking pics with the flash will make the pictures more clear in darker places if you don't have enough lighting. I haven't tried it yet outside but will soon. I do have to say the umidigi a5 pro (my last phone) has exact same camera 16mgp but it is alot more clearer than the moto g8 power so I was confused about that. Maybe umidigi had a different hardware better built camera of the same 16. Umidigi a5 pro are only 99 dollars but the battery starts to die after 2 years which is pretty good but it was a 4150amp battery which is supposed to last longer.
The battery works awesome on this moto g8 power 5000amp, charges really fast and oh my it lasts all day on only 30 percent which is awesome it was 30 percent at first startup. Now I've charged to 50 today. I took it off charger early cause the cord is a bit short obviously they are always short cause it comes with the phone. A tip for all batteries if you wanna keep your phone good never let your phone die completely as it shortens the battery life since it damages the battery always plug it in before %5 percent at least and your battery will be kept good. Also never let it hold on charging at %100 percent. As soon as it hits %100 unplug it or unplug it at %99. As constant charge when there is no more charge to fill can damage the battery greatly.
This phone runs really smooth and fast. 64gb is actually alot of space. You basically have the space on your phone and extra space on the GB SD card. You also get a physically bigger transfer SD to put the smaller SD into so that you can put your data into a computer easily. Or onto anything else.
I love the fact the phone says hello moto. Because you know I think moto moto likes you. Haha jokes.
If your sim doesn't work make sure to wipe the sim card clean before putting it in the phone if it doesn't work again you have to wipe it again and re do. On a side note when transferring your old phone to new phone google back up only does so much: messages, voicemail, contacts, some passwords chrome stuff, pictures, videos, apps, only some passwords to apps this doesn't transfer notes but there is a backup in notes itself. If you want to transfer extra you'll have to plug in one phone at a time to a PC or laptop and transfer the extra stuff that way.
If your doing the google back up and transfering and your phone isn't able to find your new phone while scanning it's because your wifi could have a block which you'll have to take off temporary for this and you'll need both phones Bluetooth on.
The case it comes with is clear and it gets kinda slippery quick if your hand sweats a tiny bit. So I'd recommend getting a thicker matte case they are cheaper on ebay. Amazon is faster but are a bit overpriced for what they are actually worth. For example, The same case on ebay for $6 bucks is $17 on amazon. I'd love to send a link on here for both but I don't think Amazon will let me.
Also this phone doesn't come with a screen protector so you'll have to buy it separately.
So all in all this phone is awesome I highly recommend this phone, I've reaserched over a bunch of moto g powers and this one had a bit of everything for a good balance. Plus this one out of all of them was the only one that was able to update to android 11. Trust me just because moto g9 or g10 seems like an ungrade it's not. they have to take out and remove stuff to make certain things better too keep the phones cheap. Moto g9 or 10 power may have a better camera but worse screen display etc. This moto g8 power has a 1080p screen while the others are only 720p. You get some you lose some. Also moto g9 or g10 power may say 6000 amp battery but it still has its flaws and other downgraded things.
Moto g8 power is best even against the moto G power. But it all depends on what you really want the phone for- camera or battery or display.
The challenge was to find a good replacement, at a good price point. Naturally, I sought out another Umidigi but most of the phones did not impress me that much. Prices had gone up and I didn't think they were as a good a value as they once were. Motorola was!
This phone has a wonderful and clear screen, a huge battery, and upgrades to Android 11 almost immediately. All the apps and contacts my bride had on her earlier phone easily transferred to this one and within a few hours of updating the software and adjusting the settings, it was all set.
Though we've had it only a few days, we are both very impressed with the quality of the phone. It takes decent photos, is surprisingly easy to handle, not too heavy, and very stylish.
The speakers are loud, apps open and close with ease, there is no screen lag, and the limited Motorola skin gives you a very pure Android experience.
Admittedly my bride and I are NOT 'power users,' so we don't use our phones for gaming, apart from crosswords and board games, so I don't know how it will handle being pushed like that. I can say that, for normal use, the battery lasts more than a day, the call quality is excellent, and there is no problems accessing data.
If there was support for upgrades to Android 12 and beyond, I would give it 5 stars but, as of right now, it may mean we'll be stuck at Android 11 for the foreseeable future, with possible security updates.
That said, if it lasts two years (or more) and still functions well as it is, I will consider this money well spent.
In short, this phone is a good value and I recommend it for those who want a steady and reliable smartphone that is technologically modern but won't break the bank as those other higher-end models do.
Battery life is great, as expected. It charges pretty quickly. Apps and games run smoothly with very brief load times, if any.
Screen is large and easy to see, but the brightness basically needs to be maxxed otherwise it is too dim. I've noticed another review saying that the phone automatically dims the brightness without being asked: the solution is to deactivate the "adaptive brightness" feature, which is enabled by default.
Comes with a north American style outlet charger and a 64GB micro SD card. The SD and SIM card can only be accessed using a special tool; the back of the phone cannot be easily removed to access the battery. The phone can accommodate EITHER 2 SIM cards OR a SIM and a micro SD, but it does not have space for 2 SIMs and an SD at the same time.
I then got a Moto G Stylus for myself and now this Moto G8 Power for my wife. These Moto phones are rock solid. You *need* a proper case though! A see through rubbery soft-ish case to give it a good bumper. The case that comes with it, isn't a good. It also doesn't stick above the screen enough, which means that if you place the phone down upside down, the screen could scratch. Plus the screen isn't protected well if the phone drops. Get a different case, they only cost like 15 bucks give or take. This is absolutely necessary if you want it to last.
But other than that, everything works perfectly. GPS is accurate. The sound quality they went totally overboard with it. Sounds like Dolby HiFi sound. I've never heard a phone with this good of a sound quality.
The screen is vibrant. It adjusts to ambient light levels great. It's usable outside.
Battery lasts very long.
Motorola provides security updates.
Good stufff!
