Unfortunately the price and the long focal length will attract a lot of people who will not know how to use it because they don't understand the basics of photography. If you cannot clearly define reciprocity as it relates to photography, don't know the Exposure Triangle, understands the mathematics involved, etc., then you will probably will not like this lens. This is not a criticism of the lens.
I am looking forward to using the lens and my first impression is that the image quality will be good and the small size and the lighter weight will be a boon for older shooters like me.
Upate: I took the lens out for a while yesterday and am really pleased with the results. There is definitely a learning curve and I still believe this lens is not for everyone. However, if you know the technical aspects of photography or are willing to learn, this lens is a reasonably priced way to have a long telephoto that did not exist prior to this new lens.

The lens is not an “L” lens and the build quality is ok. Very good for what you pay. I wish they had supplied a lens hood.
All in all a very nice lens for the price. More for events and the beach than for birds. I’m glad I bought it and thanks to Amazon for the very fast delivery.
Most of the images I have posted with this review are crops from full frame images. The excellent optics of this lens and the 40 MP in the R5 seem to be well suited to each other. The lens has has a fixed 600mm focal length and fixed f/11 focal ratio. While I have shot successfully at speeds as slow as 1/125, I find I get my best results in daylight with a speed around 1/500 or 1/1000, letting the camera set the ISO speed automatically. I think the smooth high-ISO capabilities of the R5 have a big impact on the usability of this lens, especially when shooting in less than full sunlight.
I would definitely recommend this lens to any owners of the Canon R5, and I would give it serious consideration for any of the other Canon RF mount cameras.

Pros;
-very light
- fixed aperture, so no worrying about what aperture to use
- pretty sharp, not the same quality as an “L” series lens (to be expected), but sharp enough for me, for now 😁
-did I say it is very light…. Cause it is
-fairly quick auto focus
-does not feel like it will break if used
Cons;
-fixed aperture of f/11
-needs to be really good light because of the aperture
-not weather sealed at all
I am sure there are more cons, but that is all I can think of. All in all, in my opinion, it is a very decent entry level lens.
If I remember, and if I have a different experience, I will do an update to this.
