Very unhappy with this purchase.
# UPDATE - CAT had me send the phone in, they "fixed it". Att least they claimed they did. Then they stopped answering me.
I wanted to love this phone so badly. Back to Samsung for me I guess.
*********** UPDATE 12/24/2021 - After months of glitching, the microphone stopped working, and last night i went to reset the phone, it never turned back on. it is now a brick, won't charge, won't do anything. Waiting to hear back from CAT.
At this point I think I got a lemon and CAT should just replace it. What do you think?
-1 for slightly sluggish Operating System
Thermal data is invaluable as a weatherization contractor and I even get as much or more use out of it troubleshooting electronics, vehicles, or power tools or night vision in my spare time. Having the FLIR sensor in a phone that's always with you is remarkably useful but if not for that I'd prefer to have 2 separate purpose-built devices than this compromise.
This phone doesn't perform as well as a >$500 phone should, but I'm not sure if they could have made different compromises to fit the FLIR sensor into the budget.
While shopping for FLIR cameras a year ago, I was also going to get a more rugged case to bring my personal phone with me on the job until I found this phone, killing 2 birds with one phone...
I'm glad to also have a 2nd/redundant phone available while travelling but my personal phone has reliable service almost everywhere in central MN, while this CAT phone is unreliable 30% of the time using the same AT&T Carrier towers. I tried both SIM cards in each SIM slot and they work the same. The dual-SIM functionality is well supported on Android 11. The indented fingerprint reader is ideally placed and instantaneous.
As far as modern smartphones go however, this one has a stock IQ around 95. Android 11 is generally capable of everything I need it to do but the user experience of this OS doesn't add any polish. Sometimes it visually lags for up to a second before responding to touch-commands in general. Nothing the phone is doing should have priority to visually delay each number I tap for a simple phone call... The FLIR app is an amazingly powerful tool but it's also sluggish on this device. It takes 6 seconds to readily open the FLIR camera and the sensor refresh adds just enough delay to make it obnoxious to use especially when viewing hotter objects refreshing every 5 seconds.
Overall, It's probably a 4/5 with a smoother OS but I haven't even bothered to customize my phone background so I won't be rooting it anytime soon to find out. Hypothetically, I'm not sure if spending more on a better product would be valuable or not. This product should be more disposable than a premium phone being put into the line of rigorous duty after all. 3/5 considering what's possible, but impressively useful nonetheless.
