I find that the ergonomics of these Prostaff are fine for their price point. They fit comfortably “in hand” and are easy to adjust for different users. The (right eye) diopter, while slightly stiff to rotate, is aided by thumbnail friendly raised ridges on the adjustment ring. The eyepieces optics are wide at 22mm (my measurement) and provide a widescreen, relaxing, view. In total, the view they provide is both sharp and crisp and the optics’ color rendition is quite good for these Nikon’s modest cost.
The takeaway: As mentioned in my title, these are the glasses that I wish that I had in my early twenties when I spent a good amount of time with friends hiking, and camping, in the White Mountains of northern New Hampshire. These ruggedized, compact, binoculars would have made a home in a “quick access” side pocket on my pack. And, I’m confident, they would have survived their adventures. I feel that these Nikons provide a lot of value for their price and that they would … will … make a excellent gift that will be used for many years.

I have two other binoculars one in my workshop, one in the living room. This Nikon PROSTAFF 3 will go into my field bag to help with bird identification and spotting for photography. Less than $100, hard to beat.
Negative comment......FedEx shipping envelope alone was not a good choice, yes it is a cheaper shipping option but give thanks the binoculars are well made. The box was a wee bit crushed.
These binoculars are way better shake-wise but give up a little on magnification. A real plus is the wider field of view and the brightness. Image quality is great. I'm looking forward to using them on my Fall trip to Australia and NZ.
Top reviews from other countries
Here are the positives.
* Very clear image - almost super sharp - with excellent colors
* I was suprised by high level of performance
* No purple fringing or hazes at edge of view
* Wide range of single hand focusing
* Comes with a strap and soft case.
Only negative is the large lens covers. The small ones are good. The large so so. This was not an issue for me.
I was more interested in technical/optical performance.
Good value and suitable for hiking and animal/bird watching.
I did learn through research that going with 8 times magnification is the sweet spot for hand-held viewing as the image will be relatively steady versus 10-12 times mag, and an objective lens size of 30mm will give you a decent field of view and relatively good brightness versus a 25mm. While a larger lens (40mm and above) will result in a better image it will also add to the overall size and weight which is why I got the 30mm for travel.
On receiving the product, I can say that it physically met the criteria that I had set. Image quality is great and I’m happy with my purchase. Someone did mention that you will need a good lens cap management system as they are easy to misplace. I personally like that they are not attached, so nothing dangling. I would just remove them and keep aside until I’m done for the day, versus trying to put them back at each interval. This will also not fit in your pocket, and it's more of a mid-size bino.
I got this on sale at 20% off which was an added incentive, in addition to checking all the boxes for me. I’ve added some pictures as that is one thing I prefer when I read reviews. I’m taking this on a safari in a month, and I’ll add to this review, IF there is anything new that unravels.
