If you are searching for a all in one calibration tool, that can not only calibrate your monitors but develop reliable printing profiles, calibrate scanners and projectors, you can not go wrong with i1Studio. The only other option was Datacolor Spyder5STUDIO, which included several specialist tools including SpyderCube to match white balance, exposure etc for the camera. As an illustrator my needs were rather limited to screen calibration and printer profile management, I rarely work with raster images or photographs. Although Xrite i1Studio does come with a color chart and Lightroom plugin, but its highly unlikely I will ever use it. Its easy to store and comes with a USB cable that can be easily replaced in case its damaged, another big plus.
For me accuracy, portability and ease of use were the primary concerns, and X-Rite i1Studio meet those requirements perfectly.I was able to calibrate over 10 different dual monitor setups in my studio, with in an hour, the learning curve is not very steep and the app guides you through the process. However I would suggest when calibrating displays, use the Custom instead of Photo or Video and for Luminance, select measure ambiance from the drop down menu. This will allow you to calibrate the display using your regular lightning conditions in your workspace instead of default ones, which can result in overly bright displays. I was pretty happy with the final results. Profiling printers was also easy and straight forward, but can be time consuming if like me you have a dozen or so printer with variable printing media. as each media requires specific profiles. However once I started it was a breeze to build those profiles, and again the app does a great job to guide the user through the process.
X-Rite i1Studio is an investment well worth.
