Well, this was a pretty good game. I got to go around starting civilizations and admiring the art deco themes and whatnot. Plenty of Civs, scenarios, DLC's, and modifiable (to an extent) game options allow for a good amount of replay value. The more you play, the more you don't lose. And who doesn't love not losing. I neglected to put a question mark at the end of that last sentence in order to stress how it would have been pronounced in more of a declarative manner than an inquisitive one. So yes, it's a good game. Note that when you first get it, you may be a bit offset by the black, rigidly animated clouds and the not-at-all animated diplomacy screens, in contrast to preconceptions you may have had about white, cloud-like clouds and animated screens of diplomatic actions. You may not have this when you first play, but I did, so I'm going to state here that these things can be changed by modifying them in the options menu. If you don't have the Steam software from the Valve corporation, then you're going to have to install that before playing, as the game uses Steam to work and whatnot. If you're not sure whether to get Steam or not, know right now that Steam is used by quite a large amount of people and most of them have found it harmless, if an incredibly luring outlet for money. Of course, I wouldn't go around downloading the heck out of the Internet if I were you, but if there's games on Steam that you know should be safe or other people didn't seem to have problems with when downloading off of Steam, then there is a lower chance of that particular game being unsafe. Not only will Steam give you a ton of achievements to shoot for when playing the game, but you can play with other people off of the Internet, communicate with other friends who have Steam, and download DLC's for this particular game, of which there are quite a few. So yes, if you have thirty dollars that you'd like to spend in a manner that will leave an impact for at least that any days (it's an addictive game; I've stayed up past midnight playing it), then you should buy this game. And since you're here, I thank you for taking time out of your day to read my unnecessarily long revues. It lets me know that at least some people find my over-explanatory way of describing things to be mildly worth a small portion of their interest. So yes, good day to you, good sir. Unless you're not a sir. Then good day to you, madam. Unless you're a hermaphrodite, or come from a culture with more advanced systems of gender identities. In any case, good day. Or good night. I guess I don't know when you're reading this. I also don't know if you particularly want a good day or night at this moment. In the end, though, if I don't get past this way of thinking, I'm never going to stop typing. So, good bye.

Good Game, Civ 3 is still the best made!

"Call to Power" and "Alpha Centauri" were Civilization games that went beyond what was in Civilization II and it broadened everyone's view of Civilization games. Now we're back to the core game with Civilization V, and the reviewers are hitting it because it's "too narrow." The fact is, almost everything about the game can be turned on or off, increased or decreased using the custom game menu. Hate barbarians? They never existed! Hate Civ V's new City-State system? Turn it off!

Instead of complaining about nerfs, I enjoyed the difficulty of relearning how to play the game. It has the dreaded premium DLC, but it doesn't need it.

Civilization III and IV had problems of slow discoveries and impregnable towns. Civ V fixes it all, making it the 3rd best game out of the 10 Civilization games I've played. The pace can be doubled or halved due to custom settings, creating fast (6 hour) games and the brand new "very easy" mode gives us the ol' Sherman Tank versus pikeman battles that I've grown to love. Spies are gone in this version, which I considered a major frustration with the other Civ games (the AI always used them against me.) I never used spies myself. The tiles in this game give tons of resources, making the Capital almost god-like in growth and production, especially in the Medieval Era.

Happiness is "gone." The empire's growth rate is determined by the combined happiness of the empire instead of the individual city. Gone are the days of wading through riots while trying to build conquered cities a nice temple. Culture points are new to this game, and offer awesome ways to play with the game when your country's culture "goes off." Meaning, you get a large permanent science boost, happiness boost, or more! Cities with a lot of Wonders will produce "Great People," which can give you a free technology or Wonder of the World for free! It's a must-buy.

I have played every version of Civ from Civ 2 including Freeciv (a project I hope they develop, if I was every a millionaire I might fund it), test of time, various scenarios and mods until the early hours of the morning. I took a five-year break from Civilization to do something with my life.

I had a copy of Civ 4 which I could not get working on my new 64 bit Windows 7. So I thought about getting Civ 5.

I read the reviews on civ 5 and decided to give up civilization until they improve the game. I think 2013 they will have civ 6.

In a moment of weakness I bought the game anyway. It to date is the best civilization yet. Civ 5 is great. It uses hex not squares, has tactical elements and interesting ideas like city states. Raw tactics like Musket and Pike formations with artillery support in the back changes the feel of the game in a positive way from simple computer generated outcomes to battles to the ability to think outside the box and outsmart the computer even when behind in numbers.

I used to play these old SPI board games as a kid and Hex and tactics were the center. They are a welcome addition to online gaming and Civ. It is about time.

The one issue I have is it is memory intensive, I think I need to clean my computer fan as it heats up the computer.

Do not listen to the nay sayers. I can recommend Civilization 5.
