Excellent, top-quality monitor
5 Stars
Excellent, top-quality monitor
Let me start by saying there is nothing to dislike about this monitor. I did not know the brand, AOC, but took a leap and bought it. The monitor came expertly packed, and even had a pull-out strap to easily get the stryofoam out.All the cables you need are included, adapters are not included.I was most impressed by the structural quality of the monitor and it's base. It is HEAVY, and feels like it was manufactured with love and PC enthusiasts in mind. The quality of the screen is also very, very good. It's not 4k but you don't want 4k for gaming. If you're looking for gaming go with this monitor, if you're looking for gaming and business - go with this monitor. If you're looking to watch TV, go with a different monitor.I went from 24'' to 27'' and the difference is noticeable. I didn't think it would be, but I can easily run my browser on one side, and applications on the other without feeling 'cramped.' It's also the perfect size for my desk.Overall, I would recomend you buy this monitor.

Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2019
This review is for the AOC CQ27G! 27" 1440p monitor, not the 1080p version.

Knowing this is a VA panel and reading some of the customer reviews that were very negative I was skeptical about purchasing this monitor. BUT! At 212 US on Cyber Monday I figured I'd give it a shot. Right out of the gate I have to say I'm very impressed. No problems with this monitor whatsoever, no stuck pixels, no light bleed, very good grey balance (which was a huge problem on the IPS display that this has replaced) and very good color and brightness. So let's look at the details.

Out of the box this monitor comes well packaged, even with some damage to the box the contents were perfectly fine. In the box you get the monitor, the stand (tool free installation), a power cable, a display port cable, and an HDMI cable. The stand feels very high quality. It's made entirely of metal, has a good heft to it, and clicks into place without needing any tools. A built in screw on the bottom secures the base to the stem of the stand. The stand itself provides tilt, swivel and height adjustment which is very unusual at this price range. Negative tilt is very minor - 4 degrees I believe, but since I'm looking at the monitor straight on this isn't a problem. If you were mounting this up high or have your monitor elevated it could be a problem so take note. The stand itself is also very stable, moreso than the monitor arm that I'm using for my IPS ultrawide. As I type this that monitor is wobbling gently just from the impact of my keystrokes. The AOC monitor is rock solid. Very nice.

The panel itself sports connection for 1 display port, 2x HDMI, and line out audio jack if you want to use it for ... whatever reason. Maybe keep down cable clutter? Whatever. The cutout of the monitor IO overhangs the inputs just a little bit too much meaning I kind of had to force my DP cable in. It connected without any problems but the tolerances for this cutout seem to be a bit off here. The monitor is curved but it's pretty subtle when you're looking at it. It's neither more immersive nor intrusive. The bezels are very small, so small in fact that my logitech brio obscures a few mm of the screen sitting atop it. This is entirely a good thing. If you're not perching a webcam atop the monitor you won't even notice. But man ... so thin!

Adjustments to the monitor are made with 4 menu buttons that rest beneath the bottom right side of the panel. A fifth button powers the display on and off. These buttons are a bit on the squishy side and there are a lot of settings to adjust on this display. Navigating screens and making changes will take you a little while to get the hang of. You could of course download the software from AOC to make the adjustments in windows, but that means running yet another peripheral's software at startup. I tried it for a bit, and while it works there are some features you're not able to access through software so I'm sticking with the manual controls. Out of the box the display settings are fine. I calibrated this against my IPS display which has very accurate color reproduction at default settings and I was able to get them looking basically identical with just a few minutes tweaking. Brightness in particular is surprising as I've read online that this display doesn't get very bright. I suppose if you're using you're gaming under super bright lights like a caveman it might not get bright enough for you, but at the default settings it was too bright for me. I can't remember offhand what the brightness is set at, and I can't be bothered to get into the menus to check, but it's definitely under 50% brightness. So not an issue. By default freesync is enabled, but you might want to check just in case if this is a feature you're interested in using. So how's it perform?

In short it's great. I went to nvidia control panel to tick the "enable g-sync, gy-sync compatible" box, but it was already ticked. I did have to set the refresh rate to 144 hz, it was set at 90hz for some reason, but once I did I was good to go. Fired up a handful of games and again, impressed. League of Legends runs between 300-400 fps (you have to be uncapped to utilize freesync) and I never noticed any tearing, no noticeable input lag. It just works. Same for Overwatch, on ultra settings with rendering scale turned to the highest setting I was staying in the high hundreds, dipping into the 200s. Jedi Fallen Order and GTAV (my constant standby) both benefit greatly from the increase in resolution (I'm coming from 1080p) as well as the higher framerate. GTA's fps are good, but I can't honestly give a concrete number as this game is very scalable with hardware and can perform as well or as poorly as you'd like based on settings. I'm using the ultra preset and have a bunch of other settings tweaked and I'm mostly in the 120s, though this game will dip all the way down into the 80s depending on the scene. These swings aren't at all noticeable as freesync appears to be doing its job perfectly. Jedi Fallen Order is at a near constant 90fps (it's a little higher) at ultra no matter what I do. I've played with the few settings available, disabling resolution scaling to provide a constant render size, nothing seems to affect the fps. It looks great, but considering how modest that game is when it comes to requirements I'm surprised that it's not going higher. It seems to be some kind of internal frame limit cap, I haven't found a solution to unlock the games framerate, but I'm happy with its performance nevertheless. It's completely stable.

I'm not a big esports gamer, but I do play a few of those titles. These games will all generally run at or above 144hz if you have decent hardware. Other titles will be much more demanding with the increase in both resolution and refresh rate, so if you want to get high or max fps on this monitor you will need a pretty good system. I'm running an i79700k and an RTX2080super and I'm very happy with performance. I'm not obsessed with hitting/surpassing the monitor's 144hz as long as everything looks great, which it does. Just be aware that if you're hooking this up to a 5 year old machine that was mid-range when it was built, you might not be happy with the results. 144hz 1440p is pretty demanding, but if you have the muscle it looks amazing.

Final thoughts?? I'm really impressed with this monitor. I put off writing a review until I'd really had some time to put it through its paces. I work and game on this monitor every day. I do most of my online shopping on this setup, I read long articles on this display. It excels in all of these activities. If anyone is worried about the negative reviews and you're not sure a monitor this affordable can possibly be any good let me put your mind at ease. It's great. I haven't had a single issue with it, freesync works flawlessly (with my hardware), and it's such a massive upgrade from a 21:9 256x1080 @ 60hz display that I'm still not quite accustomed to to it yet. Also keep in mind that if you do get a dud, dead/stuck pixel, or whatever Amazon will most likely replace it free of charge, but you will be without this monitor while you wait for shipping to take place. AOC now has an incredible warranty that covers pretty much everything, including a zero stuck/dead pixel policy that lasts for 3 years. They'll even replace your monitor for accidental damage within the first year. So yeah knowing the reputation that AOC is building, seeing the glowing reviews - and the bad - and learning about their unmatched warranty, I took a shot with this monitor. It has surpassed all of my expectations. It's great. If you can get this for a good price, if it comes back in stock, or you can find it elsewhere near the 200 price point, buy it. It's an insane deal.

I have recently decided to upgrade to a 144hz monitor and settled on this one. Here are my impressions after a few weeks of using it. A few things to note, this is my first time using a VA panel as well as a 144hz panel and a curved screen.

Colors: they look good. when comparing to my old monitor (LG 27uk650) my girlfriend and I both preferred the lg for the more saturated colors while the AOC had deeper blacks. When they aren't right next to each other it isn't as noticeable, and video and pictures look very good.

Brightness: this was a big issue that people brought up multiple times saying it didn't get bright enough. For me it is just fine running at contrast 50 and brightness 90 in a room with a big window. My old monitor I would leave around 50% brightness.

Text: this is my biggest complaint and I'm not sure if it is because of the resolution or something about VA panels but the text is just slightly less sharp. the letters aren't as defined as on the old 4k monitor but it isn't a huge issue. It seems like something besides just being a lower pixel density.

Refresh rate: I don't think I can go back to 60 hz. just using windows everything is so much smoother and makes the experience so much better and pleasant to look at. In game it made things look way better since I play mostly rocket league. the game almost seemed slower and the action was easier to keep track of.

Curve: I'm undecided on this one as I have never used a curved screen before but it’s interesting. It should make for a cool dual monitor setup if I get another one of these monitors.

Video: when watching the same video on my old 4k ips monitor right next to this new one, there was hardly a noticeable difference in quality, with only a slight difference in vibrancy as I talked about in the colors section.

Other things about the screen: it arrived working perfectly and was easy to setup. I'm not currently using the stand, but it seemed sturdy and has lots of adjust-ability. Also, the red band at the bottom isn't something I wanted but I don't really notice it while using the monitor.

Price: I got this for under $250 after tax and I think this is the best part of the monitor. Currently many monitors with these specs are going for more money than this one so I'm glad I picked this one.

Overall, I am very happy with it. I always thought I would need 4k and prefer it over a high refresh rate I think I have converted myself to 144hz

4.0 out of 5 stars Great monitor if you dont get a faulty one that comes with / shortly develops dead / stuck pixels
Reviewed in Canada on October 6, 2020
Great monitor overall for a great price (i got for $390 CAD after BC taxes), good picture quality and colour with full features working out of the box (144hz 1440p freesync) has very in depth picture and colour quality editing within monitors settings but the button system for changing settings is located right under the monitor and is a little tricky to get used to, to be able to fully edit settings thought i have not yet even touched any of the settings as i have so far been happy with out of the box settings (includes multiple gaming presets and game genre settings ect. FPS RTS..) Only reason i gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that a few days after receiving the monitor it developed 3 stuck / dead pixels (1 bright red in the middle of my screen and 2 dark harder to see black pixels in the corners) I had even tried different methods to try and revive the pixels by using RGB flashing softwares / videos and had left them on for 12 hours with no prevail, also putting pressure on the spot with a damp cloth and an eraser edge while turning on and off the monitor but also did not work, so i have requested a replacement though as i love the monitor and i will still be able to use my current one until my new one (hopefully not defective aswell) arrives so am very pleased there. Monitor is very sturdy and feels of good build quality with a very nice stand that has a range of adjustments (up, down, tilt) Monitor comes with a DP port and a HDMI that seem to be both about 4-6ft long which also both work for 1440p at 144hz with all ports supporting same capability. I recommend this monitor but be aware of a chance of receiving one that either comes with stuck pixels or develops them soon as i had read multiple other reviews that had experienced the same thing, But for the price and the specs, this seems to be the best monitor out there currently for what you pay and what you get (there is some backlight bleed in the pitch black but i only noticed when turning the screen on a completely black screen and turning off all lights and other monitors so you wont notice it unless you really look for it and if your really that picky dont get this monitor and spend the extra $300 on one of "top tier" quality)

3.0 out of 5 stars Very good stand, poor color accuracy, brightness, and visible screen door effect.
Reviewed in Canada on October 22, 2020
The included stand is amazing and has all the height adjustments you could ever want. Everything is built with good-quality plastic and feels very durable.

The screen however is a different story, the brightness is very dim, you need to run it at maximum settings just to get it usable. The color accuracy is also very very poor. Certain colors are blown out of proportion like reds, where blues and greens are very muted and get lost. On top of that, there is a visible screen door effect where you can make out the vertical rows of pixels and it does not look nice. The curve is kind of a gimmick imo, but it's totally up to preference.

If you want any kind of color accuracy, brightness, or just general image quality this monitor is not for you. So basically if there is anything you want to do other than gaming at high fps, get something better quality.

I wanted to love this monitor because of the feel of the stand of it is so nice, but the image quality was just too poor.

5.0 out of 5 stars great monitor ...

I've always been a Viewsonic fan but traded my 24" for this 27":

AOC CQ27G1 27" , Curved Frameless Gaming Monitor
QHD/2K, 1ms, 144Hz, FreeSync, 2560×1440
DisplayPort/HDMI/VGA, Height Adjustable,

Poweering it with this: Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB

I'm amazed how good it is, and i like the curved screen
though i expected it was just a gimmick (over the 24" wide
screen, it deflects 1"). I will always buy a curved now.

Brightness is excellent even though others rate it middle
of the road or lower ..... i had to turn it down from
default as it was too bright out of the box. I am in a
dark room though. The curve should also help to minimize
glare of light coming from behind you.

For anyone who can get one i recommend they do .... i regret
a little bit NOT going to the 31.5" model ( but it was not
available from amazon at the time, so i would have had to wait).

Nice monitor for a great price!

Out of the box I was very pleased. Solid construction and a versatile stand with lots of functionality.

I took me some time to dial in the settings and this can be frustrating as the menu buttons leave something to be desired. Coming from a VG248QE.

All in all, I am quite pleased with the purchase. The monitor ticks a lot of boxes at a price that can't be beaten.
