This unit is feeding power to an intel 10700K CPU, RTX 3080 vid card, and a ton of other components. The led screen tells me that I idle at around 12% power, but when I max things out (heavy gaming) it hits near 60% without a hitch. I hope and expect to get many-many good years out of this APC unit.
EDIT: It is now Feb 2023 (one year later) and this APC is still running glitch free! Best UPS I have ever owned.
No crazy burning smells - no smell at all actually. Reading the reviews here you would think the thing is just going to explode. Maybe they fixed all this via firmware - all I know is that it works great. It's quiet. I was thinking this was going to sound like a transformer or something, but there is no noise that I can hear. From what I can tell, it doesn't produce any noticeable heat either. I am in an air-conditioned house. Yes, it's 80 degrees in December in North Carolina!

I bought 2 of these ( model BGM1500B ). When the electrician had to kill power to the house yesterday, both UPS did their job and tripped, providing power to 2 computers to do a safe shutdown. Only 1 of them finished the job though. The other UPS started shooting sparks out the top, then smoke came out. We killed power to that room again ( the electrician had already returned power ), unplugged the smoldering unit, and carried it outside. It was so hot that I thought that the battery was overheating, so I called the fire department just in case it decided to burn.
Thankfully it didn't. They were able to open it up and remove the battery. There were no signs that there was an electrical short on the battery or the power cord, so obviously the short had to occur on the electronics inside the main housing.
After getting online and trying to find out how to get a refund on this unit ( it was outside the return date on Amazon ), I found that basically, APC won't refund the cost of the unit, just send you a replacement unit. Which, from other users' reports, is just as likely to have the same known flaw, and just as likely to do the same thing at some point. Some have had their units catch fire.
So long story longer....avoid this UPS like the plague, and until APC gets its act together, maybe avoid their products for a while.
Pros:
1. Works as intended
2. Easy setup
3. Plenty of ports that utilize the battery
4. Ability to test battery on PC
Cons:
1. APC logo is permanently on if you plan on having the battery connected to the wall (as intended use)
2. Ethernet speeds will keep dropping until you're about 1/10 of original speeds
3. Software controls are very dated with limited use and also looks to have been made in the early Windows XP period as the icons are that old.
I would have like more outlets but then the power supplies, some are square, rectangular, short or long. These should be standardize. A well built device. I wish it was built in America. It was Americans who supported APC when they first built their company

I've had this thing for less than 90 days, and it's already blown.
Given the situation, I'll make sure to have my unit go through a regulatory body before giving it back to APC.
A recall is in order.
Now my PC is experiencing random restarts, not sure if it’s a driver issue or if the exploding battery backup damaged my computers power supply. I really have no clue at this point.
