My Favorite Gadget
I was looking for a pure Thunderbolt 3 external SSD to use as a bootable macOS Catalina drive for my new 2020 MacBook Air. The Patriot EVLVR 512GB Thunderbolt 3 Portable SSD delivers and then some. It has it all. Fits in a shirt pocket, blazing speeds, aluminum case, detachable Thunderbolt 3 cable, and comes with a nice little bonus: it's upgradeable - you can open it and swap out the M.2 NVMe SSD inside the drive. System Information shows that TRIM and S.M.A.R.T Status is enabled and verified when connected to a Thunderbolt 3 port only. Impressive. My favorite gadget. 5*****Stars.

ただし、Windows 10 1809では、デフォルト設定では、2枚目のように書き込みが非常に遅いです。
Windows 10 1809では、ポータブルSSDはデフォルトでクイック切断、書き込みキャッシュ無効になっていました。1803では、高パフォーマンス、書き込みキャッシュ有効なので、デバイスの安全な取り外しを行わないとデータが消える場合がありますが、書き込みは非常に高速です。1809でも、デバイスマネージャ、ディスクドライブから、EVLVRのポリシーを高パフォーマンス、書き込みキャッシュ有効にすることで、3枚目の通り、高速に書き込みできるようになります。
macOS mojaveだと、exFATではあまり速くなく、APFSでフォーマットし直すとスペック通りの性能が出ます。
