I bought this handy "Start Collecting!" boxed set specifically to add a few more models to my GW Space Marines collection, saving some real money in the process. All told, inside the box are 12 unassembled plastic models: a heroic Captain in Terminator armor; a 10-trooper Tactical Squad; and the Dreadnought. These models are, and then again, aren't exactly the same as those found in GW's individually boxed kits if bought separately -- the Dreadnought, for example, includes both a ranged and a close-in weapon, but no extra weaponry or other optional bits, as the individually boxed Dreadnought kit does. This isn't a problem really; every model is a complete and useful piece for the game as equipped. The very nice 'captain' in Terminator armor is unique to the set, the tactical troopers have all the weapons necessary to ensure they're ready for combat (again, no additional optional bits), and I already have a few other Dreadnought and Tactical Squad kits, so I will be able to add some of their optional bits to these should I want to do so. It won't be just a simple exchange of parts though, particularly on this Dreadnought. Considerable modeling experience will be a prerequisite to changing the weaponry with which it's equipped to something else. I may lose a little super-easy customizing capability with the models in the set, as opposed to the individually boxed models, but again, they are complete as is, so it isn't a necessity anyway, and actually makes things easier for newcomers and less experienced modelers. Best of all, everything in the "Start Collecting!" boxed set is available here on Amazon.com for right around 30% less than the cost for the three boxed kits bought separately from GW. Quite a bargain, and well worth every penny for me.

This is my second purchase of this starter set. It's such a good deal compared to buying even two of the three units separately. For anybody that's beginning space Marines, I highly suggest that you buy a couple of these to start off. Even if you plan on building Primaris marines, it's still a good idea to have at least a few tac squads and these Venerable Dreadnoughts at your disposal.

The start collecting boxes are a great product from GW, even for players who are not just "getting started," but instead looking to bulk up an existing force for a good price. This box basically offers $100 worth of models for around $75 on amazon at least, so it really is a good value for GW products (especially now that dreadnoughts are good again).

I'd recommend this box for any Space Marine player looking to add a few more marines to their army.

These start collecting sets are a nice price point already for what you are getting however here on Amazon you can find them at an even lower price which is awesome as well all know how much this particular hobby can cost you. Having the ability to use these as transfers for other space marine corps is also pretty awesome. While they won't be as decked out it is still nice to be able to pick these up and basically get more bang for the buck out of them.
