Gamers beware: Not a good headset for gaming or productivity

Gamers beware: Not a good headset for gaming or productivity
I think the only reason anyone should consider this headset is if the only thing you care about is audio quality. This is for several reasons that I would consider as big cons to using this for gaming or for work when used over the dongle on a PC:1. Connectivity and auto-shutdown. This headset absolutely loves to turn itself off. If you are simply using the mic only, and your headset doesn't produce audio in your ears, EVEN if you have side tone on and you're talking the whole time, it will just turn itself off in 5 minutes. This honestly wouldn't even be that bad, if the stupid dongle didn't make the device disappear from your system at that point, in which case your PC will switch to another available audio system, meaning to get back to your headset, you have to power it on, and wait 30+ seconds for your PC to switch back over. VERY annoying.2. The side tone is borderline unusable. This is for two reasons. First, when you mute the mic with the mute switch on the headset, you can still hear the side tone. Half the reason I like using side tone is so you can tell if your mic is properly working and sending your beautiful voice over the wire, which for other brand headsets normally mutes side tone with mic-mute so you have that instant feedback to rely on. Secondly, the balance of the mic is so sensitive and boomy that 90% of the time you want to mute yourself to prevent sending constant breathing noises, and also considering the first point here you end up annoying yourself just as much with your own breath. The combination of these two problems make it an awful experience for gaming or work honestly. I would argue the mic audio quality is fantastic if you care about recording a podcast or something like that, but it turns out that is not helpful when gaming or working on productivity tasks over voice calls where all you really care about is cutting through the ambient noise, having something very reliable and easy to use, and having your voice stand out to your teammates.3. Voice-chat quality is tuned for audiophiles and not practical everyday usage. Honestly I always thought I wanted a high end microphone to use for voice chat, but the moment I tried using this headset with my friends in discord I should have just returned it to Amazon. Everybody I voice chat with hated the sound of my new mic and told me I was muddy and unclear. I don't believe this is a problem with the mic itself. Recording my own voice sounds fantastic, but it's just not tuned well for ease of hearing in voice calls especially during gaming. It sounds like I'm on a podcast with some boomy condenser mic that needs a huge wind screen to be even remotely useful. I almost prefer the way the beam forming mic sounds straight up not joking.4. This thing is HEAVY, LARGE, and not particularly comfortable. You will never forget you are wearing this headset at any moment. Forget about using it as a good headset for VR gaming, the moment you whip around to check something behind you it will probably fall off your head. Also even with the gel wicked cushions which are supposed to help with keeping you cool, I'm getting warm inside those massive ear cups. Never had this problem with my old headset which uses microfiber cloth earcups. I'm not saying it's awful or anything, but it's certainly not a luxurious wearable experience at all.5. I almost forgot to mention the wifi connectivity range is noticeably worse than my old headset. Probably by about 5-8 feet. Again, this wouldn't be a real big problem if it wasn't for the connectivity issues described in #1. Walking out of range disconnects the headset causing your PC to remove it from the audio devices and subsequently push audio to your speakers or some other device. The way this works is just so ridiculous and frustrating honestly and I can't believe nobody else is ranting about it on here.To be somewhat fair with this very critical review, here's a few good things that stand out for this headset:- Bumping music alone with the mic removed and just going for a walk or riding the bus is great. Audio quality is fantastic for music. That said, if you want wireless headphones I'd imagine you can get more for less without the whole microphone thing going on.- Build quality is fantastic. These things will probably last forever and appear to be easily serviceable if repairs are needed. Lots of metal in the construction and very nice replaceable head strap and earcups.I just don't see the point of buying this device really. If you want this level of audio, there's way better methods to obtain that. Don't be suckered into buying this as the "goat" gaming headset of the year. It's just not. I think the only people that should buy this are folks who wanna run some kind of podcast type of thing while on-the-go or need that level of audio quality while being mobile in the studio, or just don't feel like investing in proper wired equipment and want the ease of use this type of device offers.

    Hi all,
I’ve been gaming almost daily for the past couple of years. When I first got started I purchased the Bennune brand of gaming headset. It’s a $40 wireless headset and I have to be honest, it’s actually really good. Mic is clear and great surround sound for finding where the footsteps of the other players are coming from in Call of Duty.
So if you want an amazing starter pair go for that. You won’t be disappointed.
Now, Let’s get into these Maxwells.
They are quite heavy, and it will get some time to get used to but for me, they seem ok. I don’t mind knowing I get primo sound out of them.
They are comfortable enough, but not for the 4+HR gaming sessions so I did change the ear cushions to gels. They are a bit cooler and fabric against the ears is always better than pleather or leather?… not sure.
    Moving to the sound-
All the reviews are true! They are as good as everyone is saying.. plain and simple - they are sick!
Set up- I had no problem downloading the app on my iPhone and connecting. Same with the PS5 connection. No problems.
(Tip- If playing Call of Duty, make sure your in-game headphone setting are set to headphone and not bass boost.) it’s not needed. The app has adjustments for custom settings if you need them. Not necessarily needed though. They are pretty good out the box.
    Quality-
You can feel the build. They are solid and feel very expensive.
    Features-
All the features are well done and functional.
The one issue I ran into was with
Side-Tone. I would faintly hear a crackle. Kinda like listening to a record and just before the song it’s about to start, you hear that crackle. It only happened when I was paring and playing with all the buttons without knowing what they do. Since then, I haven’t had the problem.
    Side-Tone-
For Side-Tone to work properly, press the corresponding wheel button and let go and wait about 3 to 4 secs. Give it time to shift from in and off. All commands do have voice and beeps to let you know they are working. (A very welcome feature)
As far as in game, Side-Tone is not great. To be honest, this is not something I care about so much. I don’t need to hear my self when chatting with my team. it’s almost weird when you never had that feature before. Lol.
With out the mic attached, Side-Tone is great. I can hear my wife from across the room and have a conversation with her while listening and watching videos on my phone.
    Mic-
The mic is excellent. Probably the best you’re going to get without having to buy a boom mic.
All in all they are great. I watch a ton of videos on my phone and love how good they sound while playing as well.
For me- and this is a big statement, they are truly the perfect headset for $300 bucks.
They sound as good or better than my iPod pros.
Hope this will help you and if you don’t mind that they are a little heavier than most, then go for it. You won’t regret it!

I was waiting to upgrade my headset for many years but nothing seems to have the versatility of my logitech G933. When this came out and I was very hyped about this headset and decided to finally pull the trigger. I received this unit on 3/21 and been using it daily. This headset sounds amazing. Overall, i enjoy this headset and it was a well worth purchase.

Here are some pros and cons after 2 weeks of use.

    Pros:
    - Headset sounds amazing and can get extremely loud. There are various presets such as bass boost and treble boost. These presets slightly boost the bass and treble and maintain very clear sound. It doesnt make the sound muddy. Setting this headset to volume of 78 is equivalent to my old headset at 100 with dolby atmos on. If i turn off dolby for the G933, the volume will be extremely low.
-Battery life: the headset battery life lasts quite long. Under the first week, i manage to get around 60 hours. I havent done a true test yet as Audeze claims 80 hours with volume being 80 dB. During my first week of use, I push this to the limits and multiple times running volume at 100 and connecting to multiple device. Overall, huge step up from my old headset which lasts ..maybe 8 hours now.
    - Connection versatility - Like my old logitech, this can connect in a variety of methods- aux, usb dongle, bluetooth 5.3 and wired USB mode. All these require the headset to be turned on but the battery life is so good that its not a big deal. Also, this support mutliple bluetooth codecs SBC,AAC, LC3, LDAC.
    - Connection range - the range using the dongle is quite amazing. So far for my apartment, i was able to walk out to the living room and still have good audio. Distance is about 25 ft or more. With bluetooth, it was almost as good, audio did get a little static.
-Microphone was very good . My GF said I sound clear and loud. The background noise suppression was amazing. I was able to eat chips while talking and she did not hear it. Theres also a built in mic when you remove the boom mic which is neat.
-Build quality - Aesthetic is sleek and very understated. Did not look gaudy at all. EarPads were comfortable but gets a little warm. Earpads were deep enough but after long use, my ears can eventually touch the driver. The construction feels sturdy and nice. Although makes me worry that I will scratch the paint off.

    Cons:
-No simultaneous bluetooth with the dongle. Not a huge deal but this may be important for some people. You can still achieve this via usb + BT or aux + BT. Due to the nature of the dongle, I dont see wireless simultaneous BT ever being a possibility. The dongle is not a 2.4 ghz dongle. It is actually an LC3+ bluetooth dongle. Despite this, the latency is just as good. I did not notice any latency.
-Latency for gaming on phone at the moment is okay. Since most phones dont have LC3 support, we are stuck with SBC, AAC, or LDAC. All three dont have amazing latency. I play alot of rhythm games on phone and I can sense lag right away. So far SBC is the best for Android and AAC for iphones.
-Comfort - this headset is heavy so may be a dealbreaker for some people. It was fine for me with the suspension headband. One annoying thing was that on the default notch for the headband, the bottom of my top of my ears touch the inner ear pad wall. However, if i move the band notch up, it becomes too tight and the bottom of my ear now touches the earpad. I ultimately went back to default configuration and wore a hat instead.
    - Software - still needs to be updated. On PC, none of the custom preset can be set at the moment. You can still use android app to set the preset on your phone and it will sync with your device I think. Also the battery indicator on the Audeze HQ for PC is not giving the right readings. If you charge to 100%, and start using, it wil quickly drop to 95%. However, the next time you turn it on, it will read 100% again. Customer support says they are working on a fix for this to show proper battery reporting.

Amazing headset! So much customization options and the EQ software is legit. Recommend this headset to any one looking for a high end gaming experience. The microphone is a little boom like and can enhance the bass in your voice. 8.3/10 definitely my favourite headset that I’ve owned over the last ten years!

The build quality is second to none, the metal frame and adjustable headband are a great added feature

I came from the senhieser momentum 3s. These guys I’d say are 3-5 times better sounding. They are 200 grams heavier than my old headset but are comfier to wear. I do feel the additional weight after ~6 hours of use. But I’m sure will go away as I use this daily and my neck gets used to it. I love the features. The range is GREAT I go anywhere in my house with perfect connectivity. I did have to move the dongle to a port on a less restricted port ( back to from port ). I haven’t had to charge them yet so I guess the battery is great !! Music sounds incredible, I take the microphone off when I listen in bed but put on for gaming. I paid 450$ cad all in all for this. I believe this product is extremely fairly priced for what you get. They take a little bit to get used to but once you do they are quite a pleasure. I have no issue believing these will last for a long time. There are also many updates to software which is nice to see. There was a French review that when I translated it called headsets “helmets” but I can’t help but think of these as my helmet hetset. There huge. But comfortable, they really hide it in the design. I’m impressed and am happy audeze made a high quality headset with a fair price. I believe this is the new gold standard for wireless music/gaming headsets

EDIT - It's cheaper now. It's absolutely fantastic for music listening thanks to the planar drivers.

Yes the Audeze Maxwell is certainly not cheap at £350 but the sound quality is absolutely amazing compared to every other gaming headset I've owned. I have to say they are not heavy at all for me either unlike what many YouTubers claim in reviews. For music listening they are very good (planar goodness) but I primarily use them for gaming. I've looked for and tested out some good custom presets I have found on Reddit r/Audeze. Tweak them until you find the sound signature which suits your needs/preference. The biggest negative is probably the microphone quality. For the price range it definitely could have been better but it's ok, it's passable. The battery life has been stupidly good and does not need charging after every use like other headsets. Wireless range seems pretty good too, better than my old Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2's. No drop outs either I'm happy to say but I am relatively close to the dongle whilst gaming. It's also very important that the headset and dongle firmware match otherwise it will not work properly. I recommend downloading the accompanying android app Audeze HQ which seems to work well currently.

I've only encountered 1 issue which I've since rectified. For some reason whilst gaming the dongle just stopped working suddenly on my Xbox Series X. No matter which usb port I tried the little white led would not come on. I feared that the dongle had broken but I found the solution on Reddit.

I had to reset the dongle via the little pinhole on it and switch it to pc, reconnect it back up via pc and then resync it again. Switch it back to Xbox then re-pair the dongle (white led functions again) to the headset and it worked on the console again. All throughout the dongle issue bluetooth functionality was unaffected and worked as normal obviously.
