5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and responsive. A worthy buy
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 11, 2021
I am often surprised at how I get used to using a fast and responsive phone. That point was made clear to me as my main phone needed to be replaced and I had to use my backup one. My goodness did I notice the difference.
With some hesitation I decided to buy this RealMe Pro 7 phone, am I glad that I did.
The AMOLED screen is lovely, the blacks are deep and inky, without loosing detail. The rest of the colours and punchy without being overly saturated. You do have quite a bit of control on how it looks within the settings.
The responsiveness of the phone is impressive, as is the 8GB of memory it comes with.
The camera is excellent in my opinion, with photos and video being great and clear. The night mode for the camera is very good, lifting otherwise dark scenes to be a most useful image. You do have to have a steady hand if using the night Mode feature, but it is worth it.
I have installed a 256GB card, with the 4k video capabilities and the size of the photo images I can see that being most useful.

I have included four photos with this review, the first two being the front and back of the phone. The phone comes with its own Gel clear case which is adequate, you can see that in photo 3. It fits well and protects the phone, It also has a plastic screen protector on, obviously well fitted.
Also in photo 3 you can see the fast charger and rather chunky charging cable. I have not used mine as yet as I have the equivalent chargers available. The phone does charge fast...!
In the 4th photo you can see some of the specs of the phone. Maybe I missed i but I could not see the overall RAM listed in the specs. You can see that it comes with 8GB of RAM.

The overall feel and use of the phone is very pleasing. When I first powered it on I was informed, after going through the setup, that there is a software update. That is over 3GB in size. That installed fine.
Even though it is Android there are some very nice custom options for the phone which can be found under "Additional Settings".

This phone, albeit only a few days old at the time of this review, has been a good choice and I would struggle to downgrade the five stars that I have been happy enough to award it. .

I do hope that this review has helped you.

Happy shopping 😊

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast, reliable phone, with a straight-forward UI, good battery, good camera
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 3, 2021
Came from a Moto G6 that was about 2 years and a couple months old. The battery in that phone just gave up and wouldn't get me through the day. Otherwise, loved that phone dearly and have been a huge fan of Motorola. When looking this time, I couldn't get over some of the cons of the G8 plus and the size of the G9. Why do all phones have to be so damn big? This Realme 7 pro is big but the width is OK to handle with 1 hand and it feels lighter than I expected. This is my first time with Facial Recognition, which I really like. The fingerprint scanner works OK, like 90%+ success rate but the Motorola physical one was better - faster, more reliable. Don't know why the passcode has to be so long but other than that, most of the I use facial recognition. It's great but doesn't work well with masks and definitely not with sunglasses. So when you are outside, on the go or in a store, you need to rely on the fingerprint, which as I said, is decent. 2nd note is the power and volume split. I actually don't like it even though both sets of buttons are in an OK location. Too often, I pick up my phone and take a screenshot. It can be hard to tell if my phone is upside down from feel alone. Again, the Motorola was generally better, although I find these buttons to have a better click and feel on the Realme. The UI is perfect for me as I prefer the sleek, stock Android. There are a few nice touches from Realme. I like that I was able to set my back and home buttons like Android 8 and 9. The back button to the right was one of the dumbest things I've seen. I haven't tried the Android 10 swipe to back. So whatever. Performance and screen clarity are great. The screen is super bright outside. The auto brightness works OK, maybe slightly on the dim side, which is good for battery life. The phone is quick to respond though not like a huge step from my previous phone. The camera is superb. My wife has had a Huawei 10 pro for a couple years and that thing took photos that blew away my Moto G6. This Realme phone tops hers. I'm really exited to take the phone on a proper trip and do some night time shots. We had a walk in the dusk and it blew hers away - which we thought was otherwise very good at night. The battery life on a standard day only goes down to 65% or 70%, which is great considering my old G6 wouldn't make it through a full day. It lost 20-25% capacity over the years. I've now taken the Realme 7 pro on 2 long day trips involving heavy navigation, searches, calls, general surfing and lots of screen time with guided walks. Both days it got to 20% by the time I was safely back at home and late at night. I trust that most heavy days won't be an issue. However, my G6 for two years with it's 3000 mAhr battery would basically do the same. So this Realme 7 with the 5000 mAhr battery clearly uses more power but feels like it should be solid for a couple years, provided I get the same battery life out of the device. Calls are good. Sound through the 2 speakers is nice, clear. The minimum volume on youtube videos and navigation is fine. But the minimum volume on the alarm is annoyingly too high. If I'm setting it at the first audible setting, and it's shocking me awake, who the hell is using the rest of the volume? Overall, it might not sound like I'm impressed. However, I actually am impressed with this phone. It was the smart buy - huge value, great price, upgrades where it counts over my G6. If I could do it over, I would buy it again. I am an engineer and am picky. I want perfection. This is not it but it's totally a great phone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value phone lots for your money
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 3, 2021
Had to return first on as wasn't getting a signal at all. I left it a couple of weeks before buying a second one as I wondered if it was the best phone as we are in a poor signal area. Having looked at the eyewatering price of S10 and S20's to replace my S7 I gambled and ordered another 7Pro whilst it was on special offer. Glad to say this one is great, signal working as well as any other phone here. screen great and is easy to use. Its got the Samsung type sidebar see on expensive models. The operating system is simple and easy to use which is just as well as there is no manual. For me I wanted a good battery life and room for a SD card. This has both, the battery lasted over 48 hours with light use last week (my Samsung S7 was only lasting about 12 hours) and the Dart charge is fantastic so quick. The phone takes up to 256gb card too so loads of room for photos. Size wise I was worried it would be too big for me as my S7 is quite small but it is not an issue. Overall the screen is bigger but the frame is small and thin. It feels light and comfortable in my small hands. The edges are straight and not curved, for me this is a plus as the screen protectors fall off the curved screens easier.
On the down side there is little available on the Realme uk store website in the way of cases or spare chargers/usb leads. Don't try to charge the phone with a normal usb lead as the Dart charge wont kick in. However I have found the the Oppo Super Vooc charger is identical to the Realme (including part number, I believe that Realme was part of Oppo at one stage) and the Super Vooc leads work as well, Oppo they also do a great fast car charger. Make sure you get the genuine Oppo stuff though. The Oppo uk site isn't too bad on price, I also brought spare Oppo usb leads on Amazon which work well. It does not support wireless charging
Overall this is a great phone at the price, its not 5g but as we often don't even get 4g or even 3g in some areas around here that wasn't important for me. You will be hard pushed to find another phone at £220 to meet this ones specs.

5.0 out of 5 stars The underdog of android phones.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 17, 2021
Awesome underrated phone!
I've owned mainly Motorola android phones in the past, but I fancied trying an underdog brand, and I'm really happy.

I'm picky, I'm an engineer, I tried the Poco X3 NFC prior to picking this phone and the realme fits my needs very well. The X3 went back.

Pros:
Call quality - excellent, no distortion, speaker is plenty loud enough and can be made quiet for discreet calls. Stereo speakers for hands-free calls are clear, loud and don't vibrate the plastic case, unlike the X3.

Bloat - there is very little put on top of the stock android build, which I like, but I miss some of the extra visual enhancements offered by the X3. It doesn't have ads.

Screen - crisp, ultra clear and buttery smooth. This is very good and well worth the money. I had very slight lag when scrolling with my thumb on the X3, but no problem on the realme. The always on feature is really nice that reminds me of flip phones of old.

Camera - The 64Mp camera is good, but there is a slight lag in taking a picture when on its highest setting (64). I'm sure this is just software and will be resolved in a future update or using a different camera app.

Battery - haven't tried getting 2 days out of a charge yet, but I think it would be just about possible. Charger is awesome. Went from 40% to 95% in 10 mins. Battery on X3 is better, but weighs more, and this phone is nice and light.

Buttons - didn't think I would like the volume buttons on the left, but they work well and the positioning makes sense.

Cons:
Not a great deal really, wish it had a bigger battery and more UI customisation, the X3 poco launcher feels more polished on that front. Waiting for Android 11 release.

Fingerprint scanner isn't going to be as good as a physical scanner mounted on the side, but it works ok and the face recognition works very well, so not really a problem.

If you are in any doubt about buying this, don't be. It's a excellent phone with a great set of features rivalling more expensive ones. My wife wants one now :)

Update (after using a few weeks): battery life easily manages 2 days. However, no sign of android 11. Received 2 android 10 updates. Realme is really lacking customer support - but overall a fantastic phone for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Phone
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 11, 2021
Due to having to use my personal phone for my work, my Nokia 8.1 was beginning to slow down and would freeze frequently. As I rely on my phone for my job, I decided to purchase a new personal phone and use my old Nokia purely for work.
After much research on Google and YouTube, I decided on the realme 7 Pro, as it fitted my limited budget. Wow, I'm so pleased with this phone!
Display is clear and crisp.
Battery life is excellent so far with at least 30 to 40% left at the end of the day. Fast charging is a bonus, although I try not to use it unless I have to due to the damage over time it does to the battery.
The camera is amazing for the price. I especially love it's Night mode. I do not have the experience of using the Pixel phones, so I don't know how it compares. But for most of us it's a step up up from our old phones. I have attached a picture taken in the Starry sky mode.
Overall, I am impressed with the 7 Pro and feel it is brilliant value for money.
