Perfect for my high arches, these neutral shoes allow the foot to flex naturally (read not stability shoes).
Room for improvement: I can tell NB tried to trim every ounce of weight and they did make an extremely light shoe with high cushion..... but the top is too sparse in my opinion. There's no insulation so run in cold weather and you will feel it. I would have sacrificed a little extra weight for some additional comfort up top in the tongue area.
Also, the elastics straps that hold the tongue in place are a good idea but too tight. I had to snip them with scissors so my feet were comfortable. If anything I have narrow feet (6ft 175 lb) so I can't imagine it's comfy for many people.
All in all I would buy this should again, it's very comfortable and 90% the perfect show for me.
With the weight loss and all the training combined I have been able to return to running. I always loved running. I helps get my head in the right place. I don’t go quite as far and no where nearly as fast, but I at least I’m going. When you quit moving, you quit moving.
I knew the shoes I chose would have to fit right while also providing the right amount of cushion and support. These shoes fit the bill. Now… I am only putting 8-12 miles a week on them right now. I am certainly not training for any marathons. Having done that kind of training in the past, I think these would definitely hold up, especially if you are more svelte.
Negatives… probably the uppers. They are that meshy type fabric. It gives a little too much if you have to make lateral adjustment.
- The shoe lasts much longer than other brands of running shoes that I have had. No toe holes after 8 month use. My brooks shoes generally get a toe hole in them no matter the style. These new balance shoes started to wear on my left foot on the front side, 8 months of use and abuse.
- Great for walking on flat concrete floors for 10 hrs a day. It gives good heel and arch support for me.
- Foam padding inserts held up better than competitor running shoe brands after much use. I’ve been through 18 pairs of running shoes in a decade. I’m very lucky to get more than 3 months of constant use out of a shoe.
- 1080s fresh foam shoe met my expectations and I purchased another pair. Enjoyed the shoes so much I still wore my old pair of 1080s to not abuse my new pair. For me that speaks volumes about how much I enjoyed this shoe.
Cons
- the color and styles are okay. Haven’t had anyone show interest in my shoes. For me that kind of supports the mediocre style.
- Buy when there is a sale. I’ve seen this shoe sell for $90-$140.
