I find this to be indispensable. It is comfortable to wear, does't have superfluous straps, wires, compartments. Just a simple headlamp with easily accessible and rechargeable battery with awesome life. Although I haven't tried it, the ability to use AAA batteries helps in a pinch. The battery life has been great. The max brightness has come in handy multiple times for a nighttime flag ceremony, scoping and setting up a camping area a night, or as a theatre light for skits during a campfire program.

I find the buttons easy to use to adjust brightness or mode. The strap holds its setting well. The entire light is rather light, but it has been durable for me (I generally care for my equipment well since I need to depend on it).

I rarely rate anything 5 stars but this seems like a very good piece of gear. I suspect it will hold up over time but only time will have that answer. The price was great.

Replacing a very old Black Diamond with this headlamp was a big upgrade. The control is easy to use and the light output is surprisingly strong. The tilt is easy to work and stays where you put it.

I recently used it to repair some wiring under a trailer and literally forgot that I was wearing it at times. I was rolling around on a creeper with this on and it was great; much better than a flashlight for the work at hand.

Low on this headlamp is almost as strong as high was on the B-D. "Medium" is more than adequate for working in dark areas and for walking at night.

For walking, if it's a very dark night and other external light is are minimal, low is probably enough and red is an option if you really want to preserve your night vision.

High is very powerful; very.

The single head strap was different for me since the B-D also had a strap across the crown of the head but the single is comfortable and works well; it's easy to adjust too.

I've yet to seriously challenge the battery life but so far the rechargeable seems quite good. You could always pocket three AAA's for backup.

People who use headlamps a lot may have better choices or different opinions but, for the money, this seems like an excellent option for the casual user.

You can't go wrong with Petzl headlamps. I've had the same old Princeton Tec headlamp since 2011 and it was time for an upgrade. This one is brighter on its lowest setting than my old one was on it's brightest. Battery life is good, I've been using the rechargeable battery pack and running it on max brightness on my morning hikes and it'll go a few days before it's noticeably dim. There's a lot of hullabaloo around the battery cover, I have had zero issues with it. In fact it's easier to remove than my old headlamp's battery cover. It is a little disappointing that the battery pack has to come out to charge but, I don't have to charge it every time I use it so it's really a non issue. It's also fairly easy to switch modes. Again there seems to be some contention about the ease or lack of, trying to switch from white to red. Read the instructions, it really is that easy.

Petzl is by far my favorite headlamp manufacturer and I have owned a few other brands including nite ize, and princeton tec. Their longevity is great, I have some that are over 10 years old (not that bright by todays standards though) and still running strong. The new core lights are fantastic, besides having 2 options for batteries, The rechargeable CORE and AAAs, they are vey bright, have multiple modes including red, and are easy to operate. i also find the light such as this with no rear battery pack and are very lightweight to ge very comfortable for long use. i have 3 of these and a Tacktikka CORE in random spots around my house for night use as well as power outages (in addition to my 3 or 4 ‘vintage’ Petzls).

Lightweight. Adjusts to very low, middle, and very bright light output with successive button pushes. Been using its middle output setting mostly, for my residential hikes. Easily fits with or without my hiking cap. Vertical angle click-stops are terrific. I use its rechargeable battery, but have also used AAA batteries, glad it supports either. On/off switch easy to press when wearing gloves. I open the battery compartment using a quarter (25¢) coin using a simple twist. Emergency flash mode, a great feature. Love it!
