Così, dopo aver letto moltissime recensioni, schede tecniche, ed aver consultato numerosi forum di amanti del fotoritocco, la mia scelta è ricaduta su questo modello dell'ASUS.
Premettendo come attualmente il PA248QV sia collegato ad una datata Geforce 9500GT (prossima ad essere sostituita) tramite la ormai obsoleta VGA, devo dire che già in questa modalità di collegamento il monitor dell'ASUS rispetto al vecchio hardware sembrà già un bel salto nel futuro.
Mi riservo di completare la mia recensione con un eventuale quinta stella per la qualità dell'immagine appena avrò testato il pannello del PA248QV con l'hdmi. Già così però il monitor garantisce una piacevolissima esperienza di visione.
A prima impressione il monitor fa da subito una sua bella figura sulla scrivania, il formato 16:10 (prettamente dedicato alla fotografia) e la generosità dello schermo 24.1" senza esagerazioni non mi fanno affatto rimpiangere l'abitudine a gestire la mia attività di fotoamatore con il doppio schermo. La risoluzione di 1920x1200 è ottimale per avere ampio spazio sul desktop così come anche per la giusta visibilità di caratteri e menù.
Lo schermo è molto luminoso e non ho riscontrato evidenti problemi di disomogeneità dell'illuminazione, almeno per il modello da me acquistato. Si sa come, i pannelli IPS pur ottimi per la fotografia, non possano godere della stessa uniformità di illuminazione e profondità dei neri di un pannello oled.
Il monitor viene venduto già con una precalibrazione dei colori di fabbrica, preimpostazione che appare più che adeguata per le esigenze del fotografo amatore, fose un po' meno per i più esigenti. Comunque il pannello è dotato di numerosi controlli dell'impostazioni e sicuramente può dare il massimo di se con una opportuna calibrazione tramite sonda.
Il pannello è un 100% sRGB, una copertura colori più che sufficiente per chi non ha l'esigenza di stampare almeno frequentemente le proprie immagini. Il professionista sicuramente si rivolgerà verso modelli che assicurino la copertura al 100% dell'AdobeRGB, ben più costosi ma che debbono necessariamente anche essere accoppiati ad hardware grafico ben più capace di sfruttarne le potenzialità.
In conclusione penso che l'ASUS PA248QV possa rappresentare una valida soluzione per chi cerca un monitor dal design accattivante, ben costruito dal punto di vista dei materiali, un pannello luminoso di qualità e con quelle caratteristiche specifiche per soddisfare l'esigenze del fotografo amatoriale (pannello IPS, rapporto 16:10, ris. 1920 x 1200, 100% copertura sRGB).
Da non sottovalutare anche l'ampia possibilità di regolazione sia in altezza che in inclinazione orizzontale e verticale, ed in ultimo, caratteristica forse molto apprezzata dai ritrattisti, la possibilità dell'orientamento verticale del monitor, facilmente eseguibile con una comoda e rapida manovra eseguita su di un supporto robusto che dona molta sicurezza e stabilità allo schermo.
