    Very Good Earbuds
    4 Stars
    Very Good Earbuds
Design: The battery case is satisfactory. LEDs indicate charging status and the materials that construct the case are pleasant to handle. However, it can be difficult to fit the earbuds case in smaller pockets due to the size.Setup: The earbuds have you download the app for setup and configuration. The setup process was quick; only requiring a few taps. Comfort: The earbuds come with a variety of tip options including silicone & silicone/foam hybrids across several sizes; I find the hybrid option to be best. The weight of the earbuds is not an issue unless I wear them for many hours consecutively, and even then discomfort is minimal.Features: The active noise cancellation (ANC) performs well for earbuds, especially while traveling. The iOS app allows you to configure the ANC based off the situation you are using them for (Adaptive Sound Control) however I ended up turning this off as I found it to auto-adjust at inappropriate times. The app sometimes states earbuds are not paired, despite my phone being connected with sound outputting to the earbuds. Otherwise, the app has a wide range of features and is easy to navigate.
The earbuds have touch controls which I found frustrating. While the ability to have touch controls is useful, the earbuds are small which makes inadvertent touches common, so I disabled this feature. Battery life: I didn’t test them long enough to see the total play time, but I found that after several hours they remained more than 50% charged. When I was ready to take a break, I would pop them back into the case and they would actively recharge until I was ready to use them again.Sound quality: These do a great job of making music sound crisp & clear. My only complaint is that for bass-heavy music, the bass levels are not as loud as I’d like even with the EQ adjusted. However, every other instance sounds great. Phone calls also sounded clear however I have been told that I was not being heard well by the other party occasionally.Final thoughts: The WF-1000XM3s are a great set of earbuds have many features I want in an audio product. The sound quality is great, the app has a variety of features & the battery life is phenomenal. My only complaints are: app glitches (fixed with future updates?), a lack of any water resistance (not great for working out), the finicky touch controls, and the mic sometimes causes others to not hear me well. Overall a very good set of earbuds that I expect to get better with future software updates.

    UNBOXING:
The first thing to do is to find the correct fit. This, like it has always been for in-ear buds, is a trial and error process. Out of the box, Sony provides you with six pair of tips - 3 pairs of silicone ones and 3 pairs of memory foam ones. I have large ears with almighty ear canals, and based on my past experience with other in-ear buds, I went for the large memory foam tips. These turned out to be too big, and the earphones dangled precariously off my ears. So I swapped them with the medium foam tips; this gave me the perfect and the most comfortable tip. The next thing I did was pop the earphones back into the case, and the case to a power supply so that both the case and the buds charged to 100%. I already had the companion Sony Headphones app on my phone, but if you don't, you can download it.
Once they were charged, I launched the Sony Headphones app, went through the connection wizard, tapped my phone on the case (NFC) and that's it. They were paired - a very hassle free, and a no tech challenge process, which anyone can do. Bluetooth connectivity was perfect. I could roam around anywhere in my 1 room kitchen apartment without losing connectivity. Once these babies were paired, I popped them into my ear, and then launched the companion app to configure them.

    CONFIGURATION & PLAYBACK:
Right out of the box, this pair provides a very neutral sound-stage with clear mids, though the highs can be very tinny and the lows quite muffled. This might make some people to take the knee jerk reaction of returning them as they do not sound all that well for the price. Well, don't, and have patience. Configure them to suit yourself, and that's how you'll get the best out of them. Configuration depends on the kind of music you listen to, and hence this step is critical.

Personally, I'm not beholden to a particular genre, which makes this stage of the onboarding a bit difficult. I launched the Youtube music app, and started cycling through some of my favorite songs in the metal, pop, vocal, reggaeton, hip-hop, EDM and trap genres. To give an idea: I cycled through songs by Pink Floyd, Paradise Lost, John Legend, Post Malone, Nicky Jam, Alan Walker, Lil Nas X, Skrillex, Flosstradamus, Fever Ray, Florence + The Machine & Eminem. And post that, I went to work with the Equalizer, tweaking it while cycling through the same songs to find the perfect blend of settings that can achieve the sweet spot of a great sound-stage applicable to all these genres.

My final equalizer settings for the slider bars: +4, +2, -2, -2, 0 with Clear Bass set to +8. I found that these settings gave me the best sound-stage across all the genres (of course, these won't be perfect for any one genre, but it is either that, or tweak them according to the genre that you listen to). I also set DSEE HX to ON, since this allows for the audio stream to be upscaled to simulate a high resolution stream - a good to have feature if you listen to streamed audio like I do. With the afore mentioned settings, I found that I retained the clear mids, but I was also able to deepen the lows and make the highs sound natural.

    USAGE:
The drivers do taking some burn-in, and I started hearing a slight upgrade in quality after the first 10-12 hours of use. This was the same for my WH-1000XM3s, which sound absolutely wonderful after 4 months of use.

While this pair is great on the ears while traveling (I sweat quite a bit, and the over-ear cans become uncomfortable for me), I'd still prefer the WH-1000XM3 if I'm at my desk working, or if I'm in an airplane traveling, because there is definitely some ear fatigue (which is typical for in-ears). The fit, once you have achieved it correctly as described in the first part of this review, is secure, and I did not feel any risk of these falling off.
I would definitely not take this pair out for jogging or any gym exercises, since they are not water resistant, and the fit is not secure enough to handle strenuous activities of jumping, running, etc.

    CONCLUSION:
All in all, this is a great pair, and well worth the price, if you have the patience to configure them according to your specific use cases. I highly recommend both the models from Sony, both are winners in my book, and I hope to use them for many years.

PS: If you use the Tidal app, it's probably a good idea to go through the 360 degree music setup. I don't, and hence I didn't.

    Color: SilverStyle: WF1000XM3Verified Purchase
I’m going to reveal the XM3 operating secrets that Sony’s horrible documentation won’t tell you about. I spent *hours* on chat with Sony’s tech support. Turns out Sony’s own support doesn’t know this product too well and they mostly misguided me. Here’s what you must know to be a happy XM3 customer:

    1. Earbud Fit: It’s 100% true: You must have a tight ear canal fit to get the benefit of Sony’s excellent noise cancelling. I can’t emphasize this enough. Sony’s gives you lots of ear tip options and don’t assume both ears need the same tips. If you’re hearing ambient noise from one or both earbuds in full noise canceling mode, you need to install bigger / squishier ear tips. Put in the earbuds with the Sony logo facing down , push in, and rotate forwards to parallel (90 degrees turn up).

    2. Pairing. When you open and take out the buds they go into pairing mode…but good luck getting a second device to pair. The trick: Put the earbuds in your ears and press on both buttons simultaneously for ~7 seconds until you hear the pairing announcement and now you can pair with another device.

    3. Getting Noise Cancelling All The Time: The Sony Headphones app (at least on iOS): What an option overload of an app. Sony gives you all these location options to automatically select what kind of noise cancelling you want (from full, to variable, to none). Technically the left earbud button lets you cycle between noise canceling/ partial / none but I found it was too easy to turn off noise canceling, so here’s what you do: First, you must ensure that the XM3s are “Connected” on your iPhone. Go to Settings / Bluetooth /Device List and select the WF-1000XM3s. If you have other devices paired to the XM3 in proximity, like your Apple Watch, you’ll need to *manually* select the XM3s on your iPhone. You’ll hear about the connection status in your left earbud. Once connected to your iPhone, launch the Sony Headphones App. IF YOU WANT FULL NOISE CANCELLING ALL THE TIME: I suggest turning the “Adaptive Sound Control” off and using the “>” to set more options. Next to “Detection of Actions” and * the App lets you set four settings for noise canceling. You can decide what to do but if you want full noise cancelling on in all cases, you then turn on Ambient Sound Control and select full Noise Canceling by moving the slider button all the way to the left for each of “Staying” “Walking” “Running” “Transport”, but please note, you might not want full Noise Canceling for some of those activities and Sony gives you that option, including automatic switching based on location (which I turned off). BUT PLEASE NOTE: This noise-canceling-all-the-time setup *deactivates* your ability to cycle between noise canceling modes via the left earbud so if you want to hear ambient sounds you’ll need to press and hold your left earbud.

    4. Full Reset. To do a factory reset, you put the buds back in their fancy case and hold down both buttons until you get fast red flashes and then release. You should see blue flashes and you’re done. The buds can pair with 8 devices but only one at a time. It’s easy to go from iPhone to Watch and back…on the Watch you need to select the XM3s from the menu when prompted. Note that the Sony Headphone App will not connect to your buds if they’re bluetoothed to another device (like your watch): You have to go back to your Bluetooth device menu on your iPhone (Settings / Bluetooth / My Devices ) and manually select the WF-1000XM3s (likely towards the bottom of the list).

Otherwise, these are elegant devices that stay put (I’ve never even come close to having them come out at the gym) and the sound quality is terrific as is the noise cancelling at the noisy gym. Sony’s packaging is just like Apple’s: A beautiful thing to behold…just too bad there’s not a cheat sheet for basic operations / issues included!! Good Luck and hope this helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buena compra
Reviewed in Mexico on December 1, 2021

Absolutely amazing sounding tws. As a owner of multiple tws, iem, ote headphones, and bluetooth headphones with anc, this tws earbuds are still recommended even in 2021. Price came down quite a bit which justify the purchase. ANC is very good for tws, bluetooth connection is great, comfort is great, and sound is one of the best. Fit can be depending on how you wear this but not recommended for hard workouts. Walking, stair climbing, and regular chores are not even a problem. Make sure you get the right size eartip to get the best sounds as well as best fit which will give you secure fit. No waterproof rating but I wear it for my light workout which exposed this tws for light sweat without a problem. However, since Sony didn't give ip rating, I would not risk it unless you as a consumer are willing to risk it. I usually wear my powerbeats 3 or jaybird for workout and wear this or momentum 2 for listening to music. ANC is very good but don't expect ote headphone quality. Not even the newest bose qc tws can compete against ote anc headphones. However anc is decent enough to drown out low frequency noises. Battery life is great. Wish it had a wireless charging case but it is closer to 2 year old product since its introduction, don't expect too much on the latest tech.

Pros: awesome sound with very detail notes & tight bass. Mic is great in quiet place but mediocre around loud & noise environment. Battery is excellent. Even though it's dimension is bigger on paper, it wears smaller than you think. Means it is very comfortable. App is probably the best in the industry even today. Anc is excellent. Case is bigger but holds lots of charges. And it looks elegant. Probably the best option for Android phone users or high resolution audio listeners.

Cons: size does matter thus if you have small ears, I would avoid it. Case is also bigger than others. Not bass heavy tws. Sound stage is not as broad as ote headphones or other premium tws like momentum 2. Mic can be better in noisy environment. To some, App has toooooo many customizable options. Not the best for iPhone users.

I compare wf-1000xm3 to bose qc tws, sennheiser momentum 2, and Beo e8 3rd Gen. I would most definitely put sony wf-1000xm3 at 2nd place just behind momentum 2 for sound. Also 2nd best at ANC. And 1st place for customization on both the functions, custom sounds, and android uses.

Highly recommended even for May 2021's market if you can get it for around $175 CDN. before tax.

    A cor é discreta.
A qualidade do som é maravilhosa.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great pair of (expensive) true wireless earbuds
Reviewed in Canada on February 8, 2020
    Color: BlackStyle: WF1000XM3Verified Purchase
When I bought these, I was half expecting that I wouldn't like what I was getting for the (admittedly, very) high price point of $300 CAD and I would just return them and buy the $100 cheaper Samsung Galaxy Buds.

To my surprise (and pleasure!), I found I really enjoyed using these right out of the box and after a couple weeks of intensive use at home (I've forced myself to use these instead of my typical over-ear headphones), work/school and to and from work/school and home, I'm not enjoying them any less. The greatest contributing factor, as it should be with any audio device, is the quality of audio that comes out of them, in which these surely do not disappoint. However, when using these earbuds, I think there are multiple factors that contribute to why I like them so much, so I will elaborate on each factor below.

In terms of build quality, I have no complaints. Everything feels well built and premium (which is what you should be getting at the price point). I can't comment on long term durability at this point, but impressions after two weeks of pretty heavy use is good. Comfort is also good, but not perfect (probably around a 4/5). In the first few days of using them, my ears would start to feel a little sore after a few hours of continuous use, but it would only feel so if I took them out (not while I was wearing them). After a week or so, this went away and I can use these for hours at a time without feeling any discomfort. Your mileage may vary, depending on personal factors like ear shape.

Speaking of using for hours on end, battery life is excellent. I haven't used them for 6 hours straight, so I've never drained them, but I have used them for 2-3 hours at a time and in that time, the battery rarely ever goes below 70% (as indicated on the companion app). If you couple this with the fast charging case, if you just pop these back in for a few minutes at a time every couple hours, it's very easy to keep the battery topped up. Overall, considering that I always keep active noise cancelling on, the battery life is excellent.

Connectivity is solid, but not perfect. Pairing is easy with NFC and connecting occurs relatively quickly once you pull the headphones out of the case. During use, I have had a few occasions where sound will drop for a very brief moment (typically where there is more interference). I have had a few issues where the earbuds will randomly drop the volume super low. I'm not sure if this is due to my phone, music player or the earbuds themselves, but simply reconnecting resolves the issue. The companion app works well enough and is a convenient place to update firmware and tweak settings (like EQ and setting the level of ambient sound). Touch controls on the earbuds themselves are a bit finicky but fine once you get used to them. Sony also recently updated the firmware on these, allowing for volume control from touch controls (a feature that some other reviews might be missing).

The noise cancelling, for being found on such a small piece of hardware, is surprisingly good. I think it's important to remember that noise cancelling is never perfect and will always struggle with things like voices and random, higher frequency noises. Having said that, if you have find the tips that fit correctly, the passive noise isolation is pretty good, and if you layer on top of that, music at a reasonable volume and the active noise cancelling, you will have trouble hearing outside noises (including voices etc.). I've used these in a few different contexts (on the bus/train, in the office, in a research lab with considerable background noise, at home). In each case, the noise cancelling performed admirably. The typically noisy hum of the bus and train is quite effectively blocked out by the ANC. The ANC on a small pair of earbuds like these is not going to be as effective as the ANC on higher end, over ear headphones (like the Sony WH1000XM3 or Bose QC35II), but considering what these are, I would say the ANC is more than good enough. However, I haven't flown with these yet, so the verdict is still out for that scenario.

Now, for the most important part: the sound. No matter how great everything I just talked about was, if I did not like the way these sounded, I would have returned these in a heartbeat. After all, what's the point of having an expensive pair of earbuds (that might otherwise be great) if you don't like listening to music on them? Fortunately, I was not let down by the sound quality. These are a pleasure to listen to. The sound is nice and clear, and doesn't sound congested as some in-ear earphones can. The sound is surprisingly balanced. I expected these to be much bassier, but I did not find the bass muddy or overwhelming. The bass sounds full and clear with good sub-bass. Mids sound nice and clear, not overly recessed. Treble is also clear and sparkly but not harsh and fatiguing. Vocals sound great, although I will say there is slightly more sibilance on these than I would prefer. They sound great across a variety of genres. If you like EDM, the great bass and sparkly treble make these very give your tracks a lot of impact. But they also sound fantastic if you like more instrumental music (I listen to a lot of JPop/anime music). I don't use any EQ, as I prefer the stock sound compared to the different EQ profiles that Sony has on their app. I have seen people recommend the "excited" preset, but for my tastes, it makes the earbuds sound a little too V-shaped (treble becomes too sparkly, a bit too harsh, and the bass is boomier).

Overall, I think the best way to describe what I think of the sound on these is I like them. They sound good. Are these going to give you the same level of audio quality as a same priced wired IEMs or headphones? Probably not. Do I care? Not really. I don't have high end audio ear, but I do have a couple pairs of more expensive (entry level audiophile) headphones (my go to being Sennheiser HD58X Jubilees) and I enjoy listening to these as much as I like listening to those. Plus, those aren't true wireless or noise cancelling. It's harder use them in the office or the lab. And for the convenience and features that these earbuds afford you, the sound is darn impressive. In the end, sound quality is subjective and can depend on other factors, like ear canal shape or age, and so the best way to tell if you'll like how these sound (if you are really up to spending the $300 these cost) is just buy these and try them out (you can always return later).

In conclusion, these are a fantastic pair of earbuds. The convenience of true wireless, great battery life, good connectivity and comfort and great sound quality make for a great product that I don't hesitate to recommend. (If you're ok with spending $300 on a pair of earbuds that is...)

5.0 out of 5 stars Late to launch in India: WF-1000XM3 is a pocket dynamite
Reviewed in India on September 17, 2020

Let me get straight to the point - I got this earphones on its launch day in India for ₹16,490 (With card offer 1500 off from ₹17,990). Here's my review.

    Sound quality - 4.75/5
This is a mind-blowing pair to own and it outputs insanely clear mids/vocals! Bass/lows are more than sufficient, Instrument separation is incredibly awesome hence the highs are good but you may feel the fatigue in an hour if you boost the highs in the Sony app.

    Pairing & performance with devices - 4.25/5
Pairing process is pretty simple just like any other TWS. You have to take the buds out of the case then the phone detects it.
There is NO multiple device connection here again something Sony should work on for this price next time.
Each time I have to end connection with a device to connect with another one.
For some reasons, Connection with windows 10 laptop was cranky every single time. It produces weird cut off / hiss sound which makes me not to use at all with them. With phones I had to no issues at all. I connected with my Huawei P30 Pro and Realme X2 Pro, X2 Pro gave the better maximum sound compared to P30 Pro. So test it with your devices (if you have multiple) and choose the right one. That doesn't mean P30 Pro output was bad, it's just that I had to keep 100% volume to get what I want as opposed to 70% volume in Realme X2 Pro.

    Features - 4/5
Yes the Sony headphones app lets you customise sound stage to your liking and offers control over noise cancellation levels whether you want ambient outside sound or not etc.,
There is no waterproofing and no wireless charging either which is a bummer at this price!

Build quality and looks - 4.25/5
It's well built and looks dashing , quite premium thanks to its copper black/white colour combination.
On the flipside it's bulky and even the buds is larger than most others.
I felt the lid quality could have been better on the case.

    Noise cancellation - 4.5/5
Honestly I was expecting a bit more of noise cancellation since I own it's bigger brother WH-1000XM3 too and that one is the king of NC . Nonetheless WF-1000XM3 cancels out most low frequency noise out of the equation and overall I would say it does best in TWS world. Expecting better NC in its next version.

    Call quality - 4.5/5
For my first call, it sounded the worst and muddy. I thought fine this thing is not built for this functionality lol. I don't know what happened after few days of burn in, both music quality and call quality were improved especially call quality improved dramatically! Although there is a stupid sound that could be heard all along the call(Like a vacuum may be because of noise cancellation? Who knows) which is annoying.

    Battery life - 4.75/5
Exactly delivers what was promised. 5.45hrs I got against claimed 6hrs with Noise cancellation (I use NC always ON) and the case provide three times of 6hrs. Excellent!
Charging time is weird though. The red light doesn't go away even after 4hrs(with 18W Type C charger). So the next time I charged approx for 2hrs and disconnected even though red light was glowing and found it charged 100% already. Looks like a bug.

    Overall - 4.5/5
If you prefer class leading sound quality and noise cancellation over features (like waterproof, wireless charging) and you want the absolute beast , Doesn't matter the cost - Then buy it. You won't regret.
