But moving on. The story is really different because you're essentially playing your "ancestor" with the occasional cut scene into the real world to ground things and differentiate between segments. And there's a few things to do now and then like figure out what the people are really trying to get at while you're playing as your ancestor
As for the majority of the gameplay = awesome! I love the free roam ability and how the character can get up and around. Learning new abilities along the way is really helpful because then you don't get thrown into all of it at once even though it would be nice now and then to have a full arsenal of abilities like at the start, but that would make the game/story less interesting.
The graphics are fun and feel authentic. The ability to access the map and set coordinates is immensely helpful, especially when on the run from the bad guys. And that's where the real challenge comes in because you can't always hide and have to fight your way out until finally getting to the right destination or finding the right objective. Some of the battles are a little tricky and the controls don't always seem to work as you think, but it just adds to the fun of running around and taking out targets and Crusaders.
Overall, a really solid game for anyone who doesn't like cut and dried storylines or go straight, jump, fight someone, go straight gaming. A fantastic beginning entry into open world gaming. Can't wait to get my hands on further games in the series.
What is awesome about the game is not only the story but the fighting, assassin techniques, acrobatics, and it is just a fun free roaming game where you can do whatever whenever, I have been enjoying this game so much that just today I purchased the second one on Amazon and I got the first one yesterday, I think over time I will purchase the whole series because there are six games all together.
So gamesters, I would recommend this game because the story is good, the fighting, and in my opinion the whole game is plain out awesome plus this game is a free roaming game which means there is no time limit to beat the game you can take as long as you want, and if you want a good mysterious story then this is the game for you. I would warn you this game is violent you are an assassin but that just adds to the excitement and thrill of the story and game, it kind of reminds me of Jason Borne and James Bond but both mixed in together but double the strength and endurance. Also this game follows a historical plot and there are actual places and events in history, so if you like history this is it, I like history. This is a Keeper Gamesters you will enjoy it. :)
The Story:
- The protagonist Desmond Miles is a being held prisoner by a genetic research company named Abstergo. He is forced to use an apparatus called the Animus, that makes him relive his ancestors' memories, in search of a Piece of Eden. His ancestor, Altaire, is a part of an assassin organization that kills people the master deems a massive threat to society (people likely to cause war, etc.). You find out that Abstergo is run by Templars who are the ultimate enemy of assassins. I'm not going to spoil anything else.
- It is very well done and thought out. Takes a fictional depiction of events and people, and just makes it epic.
Pros:
- It's open-world and an extremely massive game spanning 3 ancient cities with RPG-like aspects (gaining new weapons and abilities as you progress in the game)
- You get to learn a little about the future in between DNA Sequences (Chapters), providing more depth to the overall story.
- There's a lot to do to help make your assassinations go smoother (Save citzens from corrupt soldiers/officers, pickpocket important letters, help fellow assassins out in a crisis of their own)
- The gameplay which is basically an artsy hack 'n' slash (if caught by guards) or an artsy stealth game. The free-running around the city is fun and efficient.
- The story and characters make for decent immersion.
- Graphics are pretty nice, especially for this game being released 6 years ago.
- Assassinations are fun and epic.
Cons:
- The worst amount of collectibles in any game I have ever played, they don't even offer anything to the story, they're just for achievements.
- The voice acting is cringeworthy (detracts a little from the game)
- The combat is groundbreaking and raises the standard on combat, but it is very repetitive with not much variety.
- Such a massive game, it gets repetitive quickly.
- Only fast travel between cities, not within the city. (Cities are massive and take a long time to travel through)
Other:
- I got 650G on one playthrough, most of the other achievements were collectibles.
- No DLC
Buy this game if:
- You are interested in any of the other Assassin's Creed games because the story continues throughout each game in the series.
- You like games with stealth and straightforward combat. (it's really fun)
Don't buy this game if:
- It's over $20
-You hate traveling slowly.
