I only need it to keep ice for the day so did not want the extra expense of the higher end coolers. We went on a long day trip and needed a cooler. I put three 8 lb bags of ice in it on Saturday afternoon and loaded it with groceries and the ice lasted almost 48 hrs until it was all cold water. On Tuesday evening, the water was still around 37 degrees. For what it is, its worth saving hundreds of dollars to the high end coolers because it does still work well. I bet if it was filled with ice to the top, it might last 5 days but you wont have room for anything else. We are going to keep it for day tripping because it did keep babies formula cold and everything else with just 24lbs of ice. The top seal is just a basic old school cooler seal with no gasket or weatherstripping. Hinges might not last long if not carful but again, it is a sub $100 cooler. Set your expectations and you wont be disappointed because if you think it should perform like a $500 cooler, you are in for a bunch of sadness. Considering a refrigerator is circulating 38 degree air, the fact that this cooler was still 37 degrees inside at 72 hours gets a solid 4 stars however, I only opened and closed 4 or 5 times. Consider that every time you open it, performance will decrease.

About 10 years ago, I was on a camping trip with a friend. He brought two coolers, a Rubbermaid and a Coleman. I had my trusty 50 gal Igloo. That year, on Kern River in the Ansel Adams Wilderness it was hitting 117 degrees during the day (with a refreshing 20 minute thunder storm every day at 4pm). The Rubbermaid had melted ice within two hours, the Coleman made it 4. My Igloo (with a block of ice in the center and ice cubes) held ice for four days and nights. Meat, eggs and even half & half for coffee stayed fresh and safe to eat.

I never expected to do as extreme a real world test on a cooler but following that, I won't use anything but Igloo. This one is every bit as good as my old one, if anything it's sturdier (something you can't say about many things these days). I look for many more years with this one!
