I will start with the negatives because there are not as many as positives. The game does have a few bugs and glitches however not game breaking. I have come across one that is kind of annoying, where it seems like the game freezes and makes a loud buzzing sound but it only takes a few seconds to get back to the game play, no you don't have to restart the game from what I have experienced. There are a few times where Bayek ( protagonist) gets stuck in a couple parkour animations, which is kind of annoying, but should only take a little movement of the stick to move around again. I also have a little complaint and maybe I am the only one, but Ubisoft please next time don't use white question marks on a yellow background, I understand you had to use yellow for Egypt because of the abundance of sand, but you could have used any other color white or yellow to make the questions marks, hell you could have used the same blue that is already there for the "special" icons.
As for the positives, the story is good, not great, but good. It doesn't match up with previous titled stories, however I would put this game in my top three (AC 2, AC Brotherhood, and I would say this ties with Black Flag). It does get better on the latter half of the game, the ending is pretty good (don't worry I will not put huge spoilers in this review). However, the characters in this game make up for the story. Bayek is an amazing character between his jokes and his seriousness, the same goes for his wife Aya. Aya is probably the best written female in the AC universe (I didn't play Liberation so I can't be sure0. The writing in this game is superb, I don't know who voice acted Bayek and Aya but you guys did amazing. I should say that I have put about 60 hours in this game so far and still haven't finished all the side quest and other activities in the game but I did finish the story, but keep in mind that I did very little fast traveling and either walked or rode horseback to get fully immersed in the world Ubisoft created.
The change to an RPG is the right direction for the rest of AC and I hope they are not afraid to take more years off for the next, because even though I am a huge AC fan I was starting to get a little fatigued with the series, but now I am definitely on board again if this is the direction AC is taking. The combat will take a little getting used to because they try to teach you the new mechanics of the game at the same time you are trying to fight a "boss". The game is a little difficult, I played on normal difficulty and died plenty, however once you find a good weapon with good stats and you start getting higher in level, it starts to get a little easy however still fun, The skill tree is good however there a few skills that, just by reading the description, seem kind of useless.
Since the Trial of the Gods just started, I feel I should post my feelings on it. However fun, the Trial of Anubis is pretty easy once you figure out everything he throws at you. I see a bright future this game and future installments if this is how Ubisoft plans to turn AC into. One last note, Ubisoft please, you did such a great job with Aya, please consider making another game with a Female protagonist. I know we had Liberation and we had Evie in Syndicate, but I feel Jacob had the spotlight. Don't be afraid of the SJW's and Feminists, all they want is attention, as long as you don't over sexualize the character it should be fine.
To be honest, the only reason that I bought this game was because I had just purchased an Xbox One X and a 4K TV, and needed a game that supports 4K. Plus, Amazon had this game on sale for $30 instead of the original price tag of $60. After just completing the game after playing it for several months, I’ve got to say, it’s worth all of $60.
I’ve played about five assassins creed games and this one originally did not strike my interest that much. I guess I kind of figured that the whole Egyptian thing wasn’t that interesting. I was wrong. After several months of playing this open world game, I was blown away at the graphics of the 4K quality single time. I’ve been playing video games Since the first games of the original Nintendo or coming out, and this is the best looking game that I’ve ever seen. The beautifully detailed scenery and amazing lighting are mind blowing. It’s almost like watching a movie, but when playing it, it’s like you’re really there in that time. That’s how good it looks.
The controls took a little getting used to. The last assassins creed game I played was Black flag and the controls were a little different in that game compared to this one. At times they were a little clunky and sticky. One of my biggest pet peeve‘s of assassins creed games has always been getting stuck on an object, and Origins is no exception.
Not only is the story and main missions interesting, they are true to history. Ubisoft always does a fantastic job on research for their assassins creed games.
The combined play of the main and side missions combined took me about 4 months to complete, playing casually. Getting towards the end of the game, I was getting a little bit burned out with playing side missions. Nearly became pointless to play them because of how close I was to the end of the main mission of the game. At that point it was really just for fun.
I docked 1 star for the aggravating clunky controls and repetitive side missions
