My original complaint: I bought the X50Q keyboard September 15, from Amazon, after buying and liking their Prime 13 board. First problem: The software is resource intensive and interferes with the operation of this computer, which is a Dell XPS a year or so old. Okay, I removed the software and emailed Das with that complaint. No response to that. Second, at about the 28th day, the red LED on the U key failed. Blue and green worked. I emailed Das, they asked questions and made suggestions. Nothing worked. Then they said it wasn't something that could be fixed via email, and I should return the board to Amazon for a replacement (I bought it from the Das store on Amazon). By now the 30 day return period was up (by a couple of days) and Amazon would not make the exchange. I emailed Das about that, last Friday. I have received no reply, and assume they are going to just leave me with a faulty keyboard which, having exhibited one problem, may demonstrate others in time.
I like the feel of the keyboard. It seems to be a solid product. But I frankly do not want to deal with a company that refuses to stand 100% behind their products. I believe they should have voluntarily sent a replacement from their stock rather than leave a customer to the mercy of Amazon policies. But I'm peculiar that way.
Pros:
+Great key feel and actuation - I'm no keyboard snob, but it feels great to use! A tiny bit of resistance (enough to keep from accidentally pressing stuff,) then a smooth keypress without any audible "click." That said, it is mildly louder than a standard membrane keyboard, but I feel great typing on it for long periods of time whereas I would loathe doing the same on my old IBM.
+Good RGB options - Some decent pre-loaded color schemes, even better customization with the Q software.
+Sturdy - Seriously, you could likely defend yourself from a bear attack by swinging this thing around, it's that heavy. It's robust, it's skookum, it's THICC. Additionally, the cord is a nice braided affair that stands up well to regular use and abuse.
+Volume DIAL on the keyboard. That's right, late 90s HP called and they brought back your favorite feature from the old media keyboards--a friggin' volume dial. This shouldn't be as big a deal as it is, but after having one? You couldn't pay me to go back to weird fn+keyboard combos for volume changes, let alone navigating to the system tray like some sort of savage.
+Removable wrist support--it stays attached, until you want it not to be. Does what it says on the box, supports your wrists.
Cons:
-The default RGB color schemes aren't amazing, though there is ample customization in the Q software.
-The software in general is a bit ...unique. It has a good UI and works well once you get it set up, but it isn't the most straight-forward affair to find or get working right out of the gate. You can tell this is meant to be a very open-source solution, and it assumes a slightly higher level of technical knowledge to fully utilize all the built in apps. A prepackaged "basic" control panel software with some RGB choices and settings/key assignments would be nice for folks who want some basic color controls, and don't need to get knee-deep in assigning which key should change color to remind you to drink water.
-Apparently you can brick the keyboard by installing the wrong firmware? This is something that Das Keyboard warns you about right on the firmware download site so uhh, read the directions I guess?
-Remember that volume dial? Hey Das Keyboard, I don't want to open your software when I press down on the dial, I want it to MUTE like god intended. Can we just set that to default out of the gate?
Overall, if you can justify the price of a keyboard like this and you don't mind a bit of tweaking to get things customized, this is an amazing choice for a gaming-oriented keyboard. Also, if you are taking a last minute trip to the Alaskan bush, it might be worth packing just in case.
Keyboard started getting buggy after about 1-yr, 9-mos, and started typing duplicate or delayed letters. I spent a month or so resetting various firmware's, and Wini10, etc., trying to resolve the issue. Ultimately, DAS indicated it was probably a defective keyboard, which I could have replaced at one of their repair centers, at my cost. Sorry, but no thanks. I believed I had a 3-yr warranty, but it turns out that is not available on Amazon purchases, unless specifically requested, at additional cost.
The warranty dept. was courteous, but ultimately not in the least helpful.
For those reasons, I would not purchase this keyboard. It was a great keyboard while it lasted, but a little over a year and a half for a keyboard at this price point is not acceptable.
I had great faith in the product and company, initially, but will not be purchasing any more DAS products, in the future. BUYER BEWARE! READ THE FINE PRINT ON THE WARRANTY BEFORE PURCHASING!

Still getting used to it as I had an old membrane one so the sensitivity is higher. However I have not installed or tried any of the keyboard specific tricks.
Nothing bad to say.
