I have found the Photogrip to be a great solution to the issue of using your smartphone as a camera. The grip itself is comfortable to hold and well designed.
As other reviewers have noted, the battery on the shutter did arrive dead but I did order both the battery replacement and the grip at the same time which saved a bit of headache.
In terms of build quality, it certainly is not as sturdy as the Shiftcam is but I wouldn't call it flimsy. I do have some concerns about the long term durability of the phone grip itself though.
Otherwise the wireless charging works well enough, I wouldn't depend on it but it does come in handy in a pinch, and the shutter button (once you've replaced the battery) pairs quickly and is fast and responsive. It's also very convenient that you can remove the shutter and use it as a remote. The downside of course being that the shutter button can't be used to switch between photo and video mode, you'd still need to do that in the phone's camera interface.
Lastly, I have heard the included tripod often described as cheap but I beg to differ. While it certainly isn't a Manfrotto, it gets the job done. I actually wish Adonit would sell these tripods separately so I could pick up a few spares for my other gear.
Bear in mind that for larger phones like the Galaxy Note series or any of Samsung's S+ or S Ultra devices, the center of gravity is off to one side and the tripod may tip over as a result. The inclusion of the standard 1/4 inch tripod socket is great as I can mount the grip to any tripod I own. It's just that the socket is on the expanding phone grip which as I talked about earlier is the weakest point on the grip, I feel like it'll break eventually.
Otherwise, if you're looking for a simple, affordable photo grip for your cell phone that also doubles as a wireless charger and tripod mount, you can't go wrong with the Adonit Photogrip Qi
(the black version has all but disappeared from the internet so grab the white one while you can)
The unit is very responsive. Press the button and there is no delay. Setup is very easy - just pair the button to your phone and you are done.
This unit comes with a battery that will inductively charge your phone if your phone supports Qi/inductive charging, as my Samsung does.
I am very impressed with the build quality and performance. It's not oversized yet feels very normal when using it. Anyone who is an SLR/DSLR photographer will instantly feel at home with this grip.
There are cheaper brands that do not contain inductive battery charging. There are other units at 3X the cost that are far more feature-filled and provide their own app that turns your smartphone into a very familiar screen presentation of a DSLR. But, for me, this grip is perfect for the price point and for what I plan to use it. I took this to an office party and took many photos. People there universally liked it and also complained about how clunky photography is using a sheet of glass as a shutter button. Everyone liked this Adonit unit. I sent them the link for it.
Cons: It doesn't have a "cold shoe," which is something I didn't even know until recently what it was, much less have used one. So, "no big deal."
One other minor issue: Mine arrived with a dead battery in the Bluetooth shutter button. This is a standard 2016 button battery which I easily replaced. The shutter functioned normally after that. I tested the Qi/Inductive battery to charge the smartphone. That charged completely and was able to charge my smartphone with no problem.
The big question: Would I buy this again? Answer: Yes, without hesitation.
With the phone in the PhotoGrip it still fits into the front pocket of walking shorts but would probably be pretty tight when wearing jeans.
Overall a great product but there are two reasons I didn't give this product five stars. There is no way to add a wrist strap. Including a hole somewhere in the PhotoGrip to add a wrist strap would greatly reduce the risk of dropping the phone and make carrying the phone with the PhotoGrip and possibly the tripod attached so much easier. The neckstrap is intended to fasten to the carrying pouch but there is no secure way to connect it to the pouch. The only way to attach it is to snap the neck strap to the draw strings on the pouch. A study grommet and metal ring would make the attachment of the neck strap secure although I doubt I would want to use the pouch as the way to carry the phone/photogrip combination.
I would buy this again and may purchase some as gifts. A couple minor improvements would rate a strong five stars.

I prefer a DSLR of course, but as a wise man once said, the best camera is the one you have handy. This adds just enough grip to the phone the make it a usable point and shoot. Again, I can't stress enough that I too thought it wouldn't be any different than holding, well, the phone. But it does. Man does it ever.
Totally different feel, more control, less shaky, and it works wonders for one handed operation. The wireless charger is a nice touch if your phone is capable, but be warned: 3000 mAh is not huge, not even a full charge on most modern phones, but you can use the grip independently of the charging, so it can make for a very nice emergency pack.
Build quality is good. Feels sturdy and hefty in hand, definitely not a cheap, hollow plastic. The phone really feels like a point and shoot with it on. Might be a bit snug for larger monsters like the iPhone 11 Pro Max or the S20 Ultra, but my guess is it still fits (I would say it probably puts a LOT of tension on the retaining springs though so ware and tear must be accelerated).
There are some nice touches too: the detachable trigger button is, in my opinion, just a reason to lose it but for some I'm sure it'll be appreciated, and the simple retainer of it made it easy for me to hack it and just stick it in place so I don't lose it. The mini tripod included is quite impressive as well as far as build, but it's very rudimentary. Same for the travel bag, it's a bit... meh, but again, for someone who doesn't have any kind of photo equipment or travel gear it will be great.
Comes with connection cables as well. Definitely, for the price, a great little find!
