I was wearing this headlamp during a power outage, and heard and felt a pop in the light. When I opened it and looked at the batteries, ine had split along the seam and gray paste was oozing out.

I've bought a lot of headlamps over the last 20 years and this is my favorite.
It's not the most powerful, but it's plenty bright for your immediate area/workspace.

The light is diffused enough that close up it's not just a hot spot that falls off rapidly, and the coverage/brightness is enough to give visibility around you in total darkness with the two higher output settings.

It has one button that cycles through three power settings- low to medium to high and off. There is no flash or red settings.

It uses 3 AAA batteries that should get you comfortably through two nights on the medium setting. I believe the packaging says you get 4 hours of battery life on the high setting. The low setting is good for close up work at arm's distance.

The elastic strap IN THEORY can be removed for washing but it's difficult to remove it from the light housing as the openings that the strap passes through are super tight.

The light itself is not waterproof, but only water resistant- which means it's OK for light rain but not for really wet conditions.

Well built, good light quality and operation at around $20 makes this your go-to headlamp.

I bought a PETZL, TIKKINA Outdoor Headlamp with 250 Lumens for Camping and Hiking in June. My old headlamps were broken or lost. I promptly lost this one in a pocket of my backpack, so I bought a cheap headlamp at Home Depot.

The wife and I were eating dinner last Saturday night, zucchini fritters, corn, and salsa again. At about 9:05 my pager went off and I got a text which always means an emergency. The call went out, it was a litter of newborn kittens had wandered off on the upper end of Old Winchester Rd. Game on!

I put on my boots and Animal Rescue Squad jacket, and headed out. A few minutes later I arrived on the scene of the lost kittens. I spent a short while comforting the distraught family and the mother cat, then I headed out into the woods. The Home Depot flashlight started to fail, getting dimmer by the minute. I used the last of the battery to look for anything in my pack that would light the way. Matches? A candle? There, under an old road map, was the new PETZL, TIKKINA Outdoor Headlamp with 250 Lumens for Camping and Hiking!

I put that PETZL, TIKKINA Outdoor Headlamp with 250 Lumens for Camping and Hiking on my head, and clicked it to the brightest setting. 250 Lumens! I could see the kitten tracks in the maple leaves and moss on the ground. I followed them, and a short while later the mother cat struggled out of my arms, and bounded to her kittens. I was able to pick up the kittens and the mother and fit them in the wicker basket I had brought.

The PETZL, TIKKINA Outdoor Headlamp with 250 Lumens for Camping and Hiking daved the day, and saved a basket full of kittens. Thank you Petzl, Thank you Amazon.
