Battery bulge is a fire risk

Battery bulge is a fire risk
Sadly, it finally happened to my Slate. The screen started separating from the frame. Naively, I thought maybe it was just loose - until I quickly realized it was the lithium battery bulging (a nice way of saying failing) and pushing the screen out as it gets closer and closer to potential catastrophic failure. For lithium batteries, that means catching fire, or worse, exploding as they enter into thermal runaway.I did what I thought was necessary and asked Google for help. They asked about the warranty date, which I had exceeded. They suggested to try a local repair facility, but that's a trick. No repair facility can source battery replacements. Other parts - sure. Besides, this feels like a safety recall issue, not a warranty issue. My car is out of warranty, but I just had recall work done for free on a major engine issue that could lead to fire. Yet, Google feels no need to do the same. Their advice - turn it off and don't charge it again, as it is dangerous to charge a battery that is mid-failure...sorry, I mean bulging.I am a Google fan and have quite a few of their products, but can not recommend buying this tablet line, as it seems to suffer from poor battery quality assurance checks. They stop charging, they expand, they fail, they catch fire, and worse.I've owned this for nearly 3 years, which reduces the sting a little, but the product is supposed to be good through 2026 by Google's own policy. I didn't break the screen or overuse the buttons. The failure is on them in the battery design and an unsafe one to boot.

I'm very glad I didn't listen to tech reviewers. None of the complaints exists. It's the best by a long way. iPad is nothing.
I was concern about weight and size for tablet use but holding it on hand is comfortable.

It has two USB Type-C ports. So I can charge it from both sides of the tablet. You can plug lots of USB device and it will work. External storage, printer, modem, input devices... and external display. It won't just reflect the screen like iPad. You can use it as a separate monitor and it will match the resolution, even 4K.

I was using Ubuntu before. Yes, I ditched my laptop as a web developer thanks to Chrome OS's Linux app support. Having both Linux and Android apps on the same OS is incredible. Even without GPU support (for now) Linux apps works fine. I've Gimp for professional photo editing, Inkscape for illustration and Sublime Text for coding. When GPU support arrives for Linux apps, it will probably possible to edit videos, play Steam games.

Android apps also work fine. Many games run smooth. But of course, since that big screen is new for the Android world, many apps look bad on fullscreen. I experienced app crashes a few times, a few apps didn't launch at all but these are the minority. I hope app developers give more importance on big screens and x86 processors.

I also impressed Google Assistant on this device. It's so fast that sometimes I find it easier to launch apps, websites with the Assistant especially if I don't have the keyboard attached. I also find very useful to find documents in Drive. But unfortunately, it opens it on Chrome instead of the Files app so, I can't open the file with a different app by this way.

I also like the performance of Chrome OS. It is so fast, even with the Android and Linux apps are working. Apps launch instantly, multitasking is great. I never shut down my device but it boots up in 5 seconds. Some UI animations are not 60 fps :) but this never affects the interaction time. Usability is fast. I hope animations will be smoother with updates but not a big deal for me, it's not a game.

The settings of Chrome OS over-simplified. You can't customise things much. There isn't an option to set a screen off timer. However, some missing settings can be changed with extensions and Chrome flags.

The surface pro of Chromebooks. Sound is amazingb screen quality is solid; backlit keyboard is tactilely pleasing and makes typing in the dark easy; track pad is responsive ; boots amazingly quick...2-3 seconds.

Chrome OS feels like a natural extension of the Android eco-system. Fast and light, applications run quick, movies look amazing, and load times are practically non-existent.

The tablet evolved and improved. Google killed this line too early; however, the updates run for the next 5 years 2025.

This thing runs on its own hot sex appeal. Great price performance point, great speed, and amazing sound.

I use chrome OS on my desktop, and I have had a series of chromebook laptops, since the first Samsung. So I thought, heck why not try a chrome tablet. This pixel slate is really nicely made, works great, great screen, good speakers, and the pen works really well too. Just one thing though: Mobile Chrome is not the same as Desktop Chrome. There are a bunch of user interface differences which take some getting used to. Also, when you attach the keyboard, the Slate automatically goes back to Desktop Chrome mode. Unfortunately, the accessory keyboard for the Slate falls short of a good chromebook keyboard. After 6 months of this, I decided that even tho it's a really nice unit, I am not a tablet guy. I prefer having a decent keyboard, like on my 15 inch Acer chromebook. So I sold the Slate.

I will be as thorough as I can and will break it down as much as possible in

Screen Quality - the Screen Quality I would honestly give it a 4.5 out of 5. Due to the fact that you're a 12.5 inch LCD panel and not an AMOLED panel. So your blacks aren't black and your yellows aren't yellow etc. But still gives you a very nice and crisp screen with that amazing molecular display and I did I mention it gets very bright at 337 nits which can also be looked at in sunlight trust me I have tried it. The touch controls are awesome on the screen a lot of bugs have been ironed out theres no lag between touches from or pen support. I mean it's like freakishly smooth it weirds me out sometimes how buttery smooth it is. My tab s4 doesn't even hold a candle to this screen.

Battery life - 5 out 5 imo a battery on tablet/cpu that can last me a whole work day go home and then watch movies and don't have to charge it till late in the night. Gets an A+ from me no apple or Samsung product has been able to last 12 hrs on a single charge.

overall productivity - okay so here's who this is for are you looking to like heavy music and video production. If so then this is not for you go with a different product. But if your into office productivity, school, watching movies, listening to music and playing the stadia then this is for you. Are you just looking for a tablet and that's all then this wouldn't be for you where the Google pixel slate really shines is in its laptop mode with the keyboards from Google and G-type.

The pixel slate was a mess when it came out. But a year later and with the sale and free keyboard and stylus. It is a such a good deal to mess. Don't buy it for playing android games. But otherwise it is the best mix between a tablet and a laptop you'll find. Screen is amazing almost at 4k, and keyboard is great too. With all the updates coming in using it has been great
