My first watch in this effort was a Casio ProTrek outdoor GPS watch. It's Ironman tough and waterproof, but it's slow and lacks heart rate monitoring and NFC (contactless payment) capability, and battery life is just okay (I had to "stretch" the battery life by going into Low Power Mode for a few hours each day). I know this is a small quibble, but I missed being able to pay without taking out my wallet or phone, especially in this age of contactless payments. I still have the ProTrek and keep it as a backup or for situations where I need a more rugged timepiece.
My second watch was a Gen4 Explorist from Fossil. I wanted something I could dress up if needed and had NFC and heart rate monitoring. This one seemed to fit the bill and was extremely budget friendly ($57 on a Cyber Monday deal and additional coupon). Battery life was comparable to the Casio (again having to toggle back and forth between Daily and Extended modes) but it had the features and look I was after. Sadly it fell apart after a month, and the warranty repair was unsatisfactory, so I ended up returning for a refund.
While I was going through the Fossil woes, I had my eye on the new Moto360. The price had made its way down to a point where I could pick it up with some money and gift cards I received at Christmas. I could tell by the photos that the build quality was far above the Fossil watch. The main thing for me was the use of screws in the back of the Moto, compared to the mediocre glue Fossil uses to hold theirs together (the sub-par glue was the main reason my Fossil watch fell apart).
The Moto360 is the smartwatch I wanted the whole time. It has a clean, versatile style that can be worn with a suit or casualwear, and it has the functions I'm looking for (WearOS, NFC, heart rate, GPS), it's faster than the other WearOS watches I've had, and the battery life is fantastic--I usually have around 50% battery life at bedtime, which is on par with my old Apple Watch. If there was ever to be an “official” Android/WearOS watch, it should be this one.
Granted I've had it only a few weeks, but I'm pleased as punch with it so far, especially compared to my past WearOS smartwatch experiences.
Hardware:
Right away you can feel the build quality in this watch. It has some heft to it; the kind of heaviness that you don't get with cheap materials. The back is secured by screws, which is something I appreciate more now after hearing about issues with glued backings falling off in other brands like Fossil. The upper button has a rotating bezel to offer an alternative to manual scrolling on the touchscreen. Both upper and lower buttons are satisfying to click, with the lower button serving a custom user-set function (I just have a timer set for that button). The heart rate monitor can be accurate at times, not accurate at others. But this is a common problem among non-fitness smart watches. I don't need precise tracking, so again fine by me. I have mine set to measure throughout the day, so the average HR ends up being pretty close.
Accessories:
Two bands are included with the watch. I'm personally a fan of the silicon version--the leather band doesn't feel too high of quality in comparison (genuine leather, as is printed on the back, doesn't indicate that it's quality leather like top or full grain leathers, and I don't expect it to last long). The included charger is disappointing... it seems pretty basic for an otherwise polished package. But neither issues are that big of a deal.
Looks:
I love the way this watch looks; it's classy but not overdone for everyday use. My wrists are on the smaller side at 6 inches, but I like the way this watch looks on me. Just the right size, unlike many monstrously sized watches out there.
Software/Battery:
Wear OS runs smoothly to my eye. I haven't noticed any lagging at this point, at least not anything I would consider irritating. The vibration can be set to different intensities and frequencies (I'm not picky about the vibration, it feels fine to me). Some have commented on the screen being too dark. Part of me wonders if they did not have the adaptive brightness turned on correctly... It's plenty bright for me. I can see the dial in full sunlight. The GPS works well and tracks my run distance accurately. Battery lasts me right around two days at the moment. This is with light-moderate use and always-on screen mode, so your mileage may vary. I noticed turning on the wrist gesture to wake reduced the battery life. Not too surprising since the screen will brighten every time you rotate your wrist. (Someone else wrote a review saying it lasted them less than a day and performed like a $20 watch... not sure what they did or if they got a lemon. Definitely not my experience)
I got this watch to use in a clinic setting so I don't have to look at my phone for notifications. Anyone who is looking for a watch with more specific expectations in mind might be nit-picky about some aspects of the Moto 360. But to anyone who wants a watch that does all the basics really well while looking incredible: this one is hard to beat.
If I have any major complaints or issues I will update this review. I'm one month in and couldn't be happier with my choice.

This isn't a Motorola product like in past generations, eBuyNow licensed the name and is producing the watch. The battery will probably give you a full day, but you would need to make sure you turn off always on through the WearOS app on your phone and also turn the brightness to a low setting. If you're coming from a different watch, there's going to be a learning curve, it's not as intuitive as let's say an AppleWatch, but overall it's a good device for the money.
If you're looking for a stylish watch that can do both Android and iOS, give it a try. As always, you can get it and if you don't like it just return it. But give it some time and play around with the settings to try to maximize the battery life and productivity.
