What I Like:
- Super affordable
- High weight limit (near 300lbs i believe). Almost every bike in this class had a much lower weight limit and for me that means a chincy bike. I'm no where near 300lbs, but I wanted something stable that wouldn't feel like it was going to bust apart by cycling at a high speed. This bike gets the job done.
- Low Profile, it is fairly low to the ground meaning it isnt an eye sore and is easy to hide when company is visiting.
- Weight, it feels around 50 or 60 lbs but is very easy to move around and has glider "wheels" on the front support bar if you need it.
- Overall value, I looked at bikes around $300 which did not match up this bike (for m.y needs and budget)
What i do not like:
- Lack of high tension settings. You have eight tension levels to bike on, I feel that only 6 through 8 give me any sort of challenge. I'd rather they do away with some of the lower tension settings and add a few higher ones.
- No programs. Unlike higher end bikes, the "computer" on this bike only counts your time, speed, distance per session, calories burned and total distance lifetime. It has no "weight loss" or "mountain" programs that automatically change the tension for you like on higher end bikes. Now, I knew this going in and I happily saved the few hundred dollars by not getting a "program bike" but it still is a draw back if you don't like the idea of switching tensions yourself. I switch the tensions to create my own programs, but it can be nuisance. If your budget is low for a bike, leave the program features out.
- Inaccurate calorie count. I disregard this feature as it does not seem to be accurate at all, it will say i've burned 50 calories after an hour of biking (regardless of if i bike the whole hour in gear 1 or gear 8. Since i'm working much harder on gear 8, i should be burning more calories).
- Seat. The arm rests are kind of at a weird level (may just be me, i am a taller guy). And the seat does not have as much padding as some of the more expensive bikes but it isn't uncomfortable, just less comfortable than other more expensive bikes.
Overall, I recommend this product if you are on a budget, don't have a lot of room, need something light and easy to assemble. It is a winner in those categories and I do not regret my purchase one iota. The bike has helped me achieve my fitness goals and for that I am happy.
Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2022
The issue is that it seems like some bikes are built with a couple of annoying flaws. The holes don’t match up. There are two sets of two holes on the bottom seat, back seat, and handlebars. They were not drilled in the right spot to line up. By A LOT—about 5 inches off. As I didn’t want the handlebars anyway and it still worked with one set of holes lined up, I still used it for a bit without problems, except that the seat rocked slightly. I could have left it that way, or I could have disassembled and gotten it back into the box and returned it and waited for a replacement, but instead I decided to fix it. I drilled my own holes in both parts of the seat and found a female threaders at the hardware store for a few dollars. I also drilled through the steel post in the bottom so that both carriage bolts could connect and make the bike more sturdy.
Was it a pain? A bit. Did it take long with the right tools? Not really. Was it worth it? Yes. This is a great simple bike. I have had it for a week and have put 90 miles on it already, and I know I will put this bike to good use.
It’s simple, quiet, effective, sturdy, not bulky, and an amazing price. Overall I’m happy. Just be aware that you may need to do some fixing or some return work if you get one of the flawed ones.

Once on the bike - it felt sturdy....a few tweaks and bolt tightening removed any movement. The flywheel is particularly smooth and I felt no difference from much more expensive fitness centre bikes. The monitor is basic - but provides most of what you need to know during a workout. (time, calories, distance, speed etc.). There is no holder for a phone or tablet....but that I imagine could be added to the post at some point.
The adjustment for leg length is manual and a bit stiff but not something you are doing continuously so not an issue. What IS important is you can be over 6 FT and be comfortable as well as just over 5 FT!
Having just had hip surgery and unable yet to ride an upright bike....the Marcy really has permitted me to "get back in the saddle" and get some aerobic activity and leg muscle strengthening. There are 8 resistance levels which is enough for a decent workout.
Those looking for a "professional" type bike will need to spend more but for anyone looking for a well constructed and quiet recumbent bike at home....the Marcy MC-709 should be more than adequate. Recumbent bike reviews on You Tube and online have recommended this as a good budget bike for several years now and for good reason. (I did not receive any payment for this review).

Recomendable.

Putting it together was easy. I've used it for up to about an hour and fifty minutes at one time and found it comfortable at all times. It is very quiet and the readout is easy to see and easy to use. The feet stay in the stirrups easily. Adjusting length for different inseam lengths is very easy and quick.
A few small negatives (very small considering the price of the bike):
1. I think the distance measured is higher than it should be for the amount of work. It's hard to be sure since I don't own a road bike, the roads around my place aren't flat and quite a bit of my outdoor riding is on dirt roads, but the distance measured by the ME 709 seems to build up at a faster pace than I can maintain outdoor near home.
2. There is a fair bit of difference between adjacent resistance levels, which might provide temporary difficulty for some people.
Of course, a budget recumbent bike isn't likely to be suitable for strong, serious cyclists.
3. The calorie counter seems to rely on distance (perhaps and resistance level, though I'm not sure about that) and doesn't take into account the rider's size or fitness level, so can be expected to be a very, very rough estimate.
Overall, this is a great budget choice for avoiding bad weather, avoiding the discomfort of too long on a bike seat and for those with backs that do best with a recumbent bike.
Edit November 9, 2022: I've had the bike a little under six months now and it has gotten a reasonable amount of use, up to 40 miles at a time. It has become quite noisy the last few days, the sort of sound that one would get putting a playing card in the spokes of a real bike and spinning the wheel.
As for my point # 2 earlier, the concern may have been misplaced. Progressing over time from Resistance level 5, to 6, then to 7 (out of the 8 possible settings) wasn't difficult even for a retiree.
Edit Dec 14, 2022. There is also a loud whine when I start at Resistance Level 6. When I try Resistance Level 7 there is also a loud whine and the resistance seems to me to be greater than when I first tried it, enough to make the bike very difficult for me.
Edit Jan 6, 2023. I contacted Marcy's product support and at their request sent them information and a video of the bike operating at Resistance Level 7. From first contact it was only 2 days until they advised they'd be sending me a new bike. It arrived today and while I haven't unpacked or assembled the replacement, their customer support has been very impressive.
