1. Interface. I am a network engineer by trade so I am used to very confusing difficult to use electronics. THIS IS SIMPLE. I got it. Plugged it into my Windows computer and left it there for a while to make sure that it charged. The device shows up as a USB drive. Drag MP3 files to it and it is ready to go. I have not tried anything fancy like play lists. The random play suffices for me. I have loaded 2 gig worth of music. Data transfer speeds are USB 2.0 so not as fast as I would like but it works. Most of the music I have is encoded at 128 bits but some are higher. There does not seem to be any issues between the different levels of encoding. I charge it up once a week and it runs great.
2. Fit and controls. There are three buttons. On/Off/mode, forward/volume up, reverse/volume down. Very straight forward. The device fits on the back of the goggle strap very comfortable and is not noticeable in terms of weight. .63 grams. The ear buds are really were there is work to be done. And the Tree design is the best at keeping a water tight seal, however this can be uncomfortable. I STRONGLY suggest that before attempting to swim with this you test which ear piece fits best. My ear canals are not exactly the same size and some work was needed to get the best fit. Also by getting the ear pieces wet first they insert more easily and seal better in the canal. WARNING the ear pieces can come off in your ear. DO NOT PANIC. It may be useful to have tweezers on hand to aid in removal. This has NOT happened to me. The ear buds are tight and seal well. I strongly suggest that after a pool swim you wipe them down with fresh water and the ear pieces with a sanitizer of some kind. Music reproduction is great for what it is. This is NOT an audiophile head set like Shure or B&O or even Bose. You are swimming in water which significantly impacts the acoustics. That said the bass response was surprisingly deep and the highs very crisp.
3. Use. Like I said. Test fit before you try to use in a workout. It is needful to very carefully tuck the wires under the goggle strap. I use the method in the manual kind of a S with the plugin to the player pointed downward towards my neck. I swim front crawl. Flip turns are possible BUT I hope you are better at them than I. I suspect a well executed flip turn will have better results than my clumsy attempts. In addition if you are not careful in your strokes your exhaust air and how your shoulders move can impact how well the ear buds stay sealed over the course of the workout.
Conclusion. For the money hands down BEST MONEY I have spent on tech in a long long time! Very impressive. Simple, elegant and easy to use. GREAT PRODUCT!!!!!
• sound quality is decent
• easy to load I-tunes library, holds a lot of songs. Buttons are easy to use while swimming.
Cons:
• the plastic is pretty brittle and looks like it would crack easily if dropped, I’ll update if it becomes an actual problem.
• battery life is pretty short, there’s little warning that it’s almost done, you’ll hear battery low, then it cuts out within seconds. My I-pod shuffle had a yellow light for a good hour or so warning you to charge up.
SOUND QUALITY: They sound the same. Sound quality is all about the earbuds, and the swimbud sport are the best-sounding waterproof earbuds I've tried (and I've tried most of them). Don't expect audiophile quality, but they are much fuller than the tinny baseless sound of most other waterproof earbuds. Be sure you use the correct-sized tips for your ears to get a good seal. The large 3-flange tips work best for me.
VALUE: This is where this package really shines, and why this gets 5-stars. The swimbud sport earbuds alone are worth $70 (which is the price I've paid for them in the past), so getting the SYRYN mp3 player for $20-$25 more is incredible value!
SIZE & WEARABILITY: As you can see from my pics, the SYRYN is small but much thicker than the ipod shuffle. At first I was worried that the thickness might be a problem, but it turns out that it feels just fine when clipped to my goggles strap. The SYRYN has a really nice swiveling clip, which lets you swivel it to the desired orientation after clipping it. It "clicks" through 20 swivel point positions in 360 degrees, and feels very solid. Bravo to the engineers who designed this clip.
BATTERY LIFE: I haven't yet done a formal measurement, but it seems to be decent-- it lasted through around ten swims before needing to recharge. I'll update this review when I've had a chance to do a real battery test.
CONTROLS/ERGONOMICS: the buttons are easy to find and press while the device is clipped to my goggles/mask. They are rubberized and make a nice tactile click when pressed. There are only 3 buttons so it's easy to control the device "by feel" while swimming. The middle button is play/pause (and hold it down to power on or off). The outer buttons are skip forward/back, and hold them down to adjust volume. A convenient LED light on the front shows you whether the device is on or off. Overall, I think the controls are an improvement over the ipod shuffle, which is harder to use "by feel".
FEATURES - the SYRYN lacks a low battery warning :( On the shuffle, a voice cuts in to your music to let you know your battery is low, and then there is still enough battery to finish your swim. The SYRYN just stops working mid-swim with no warning, which can be a real bummer (it's HARD to swim without music after you get used to always having music!). As much as I miss that feature, I'm still rating it 5-stars, because everything else is great about this device. E.g. the SYRYN's song shuffle feature works better than the ipods-- I always noticed that the ipod would "randomly" select the same songs over and over, even though I had dozens of songs loaded, whereas the SYRYN seems more random.
IMPORTING MUSIC - unlike the ipod, you can't use itunes. The device appears as a drive on your computer, and you just drag your music files onto it. Not as convenient as itunes, but it works. I was never a fan of itunes, anyhow.
WARRANTY & SERVICE - the ipod and SYRYN both have a 12-month warranty, which is really important with underwater MP3 players because they tend to stop working after awhile. I typically would have to return my ipod for a replacement after 8-10 months of near-daily use. This was probably due to the compromise of waterproofing a device not meant to be waterproofed, then submerging it in salt water several times a week. Underwater Audio customer service is very responsive, and they ship the replacement as soon as you show them your return tracking number, so you don't have to wait long for it. The SYRYN feels much more solid and "built for the water" than the shuffle, so I'm hoping that it lasts longer. EDIT: my first one broke after a few uses. Underwater Audio quickly replaced it and the new one has lasted over a year so far.

I like that it's small and easy to use.
Only one negative is when you connect to the PC it will not save the current playback stamp.
Meaning if you listening to something long, like a podcast it will reset and not save where you were.
Otherwise awesome product.
