1. While this specific item is the softest, it's not pool-noodle soft. In fact, it's quite stiff and even somewhat hard. The firmer/harder models are built around a hard plastic tube and are very hard. If you're new to this, I suggest the level of firmness this one has.
2. They come in different lengths. The shortest, which I bought, is perfectly adequate and would be easy to travel with. But it is also easier to roll off of than a longer one would be.
3. The paper band wrapped around it has some basic exercises, but were hard to read for my old eyes. I took some photos of them and printed them out in a larger size.
Overall it's very well made and perfect for my needs.
I like that it has some give and the ridges. The diameter is perfect for me. the diameter is just under 18 inches. 18x18. IT really helps my back to "Roll" daily.
As far as I'm concerned the quality is excellent, feels very sturdy and I imagine it will last a number of years.
Some reviews mention this roller being too soft, the best way I can describe the firmness is it feels firn but has just enough give as to not feel like you're rolling on a hard piece of plastic.
It's not soft and pillowy, but firm with a bit of give.
I'm a little under 160lbs and I never felt as if the roller was collapsing under my weight.
One review mentioned it sliding under them which did happen to me but it's a piece of foam on a hardwood floor, I'm not surprised that it slides a bit.
If you roll on something with a bit of grip you shouldn't have this issue, and most of the time it stays pretty firmly in place.
The foam nubs that simulate a palm or fingers sounds gimmicky but honestly I did notice a difference when rolling on a smooth portion vs a pointed portion of the roller.
Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and if you're on the fence about getting this foam roller I'd say do it.
The grey foam is a nice texture that is not too hard, not too soft...just right for a beginner foam roller. You can start off rolling with a side that has bigger grid pattern that is less aggressive and then work your way up to the side that has the smaller grid. The smaller grid is awesome! You can really get the kinks worked out with that side! I loved it so much, I asked the physical therapist for more ideas on how to use it and I am now doing calves, thighs, butt, shoulders, and I end with my back after twisting around to do all the rest. It is like having a full body massage without leaving your living room!
I highly recommend the TriggerPoint Core foam roller! I'd have to say it's possibly the best $30-some bucks I've spent on myself!
I would recommend this more for rolling out your legs than your back, but it does the job.
Works for me temporarily.
