Product Description

After a tragic riding accident, young cowboy Brady (Brady Jandreau), once a rising star of the rodeo circuit, is warned that his competition days are over. Back home, Brady finds himself wondering what he has to live for when he can no longer do what gives him a sense of purpose: to ride and compete. In an attempt to regain control of his fate, Brady undertakes a search for a new identity and tries to redefine his idea of what it means to be a man in the heartland of America.

I don't think this was a documentary but it was real grief and actual life! Excellent movie!
This was a gift for my nephew who's a real cowboy! The story is a movie without stuntmen, body doubles and fancy computer graphics. I was amazed at what I didn't realize about horses!

It is real life, real drama, real emotion. I am a bit stumped for words because it is a very hard movie to criticize even thought in the estimation of most I am sure this movie appears on the surface to be lacking something. You can't quite put your finger on it, but then you realize, this is real life. You know the kind of life that MOST of us really live with the ups and downs, the lack of constant entertainment and stimulation, just daily life. It is such a different road than anything out of Hollywood with inflated acting and drama. So this movie seems very low key, slow and down played. But it is going to grow on you, until before you know it you are emotionally invested in this family and their challenges.

I personally found myself wanting to know if there was an Apollo and if he actually had to be put down? I have had a horse with a bad case of wire twisted around the ankle but I was able to save her and get her back on her feet, Although injury to a horses leg is very slow to heal.

I also thought that Lane was injured during bull riding, just a supposition on my part, but found out later it was from a car accident. Either way I found him to be another aspect of the movie that I wanted to know more about. He was rather inspirational in his own way. Even though he knew that he would not ride again, he never really gave up, there was still always a little hope. When the movie ends you aren't really ready, you want to see more, but then I love horses, so I really enjoyed the horse training aspect interesting and quite accurate.

I have an Uncle who rode broncs in the rodeo, he lived on a horse ranch in Nevada and raised and trained horses so this movie really felt like family to me. Just a great movie and very entertaining.

Excellently done. Poignant and deep. This movie touched my soul because of my own past, my loss of being able to ride after an accident and injuries. But even for the non rider it will touch your soul in ways no other movie could. The fierce determination to return to the only thing you ever knew or believed were good at. Followed by the multiple layers of grief at not being able to do want your soul IS, not being able to financially support yourself anymore, the "cowboy up" pressure you not only put on yourself, but that everyone around you puts on you also when you wish deep in you soul that it was that simple. This movie touched me deeply as it mirrored my own loss of not being able to train and rehab horses anymore or even ride. It captured that loss, and acceptance and moving on at the essence of what life after a life changing event means. Thank you for making this movie. I would recommend it to anyone. To someone who first hand has lived this and to someone who can only imagine, to someone who has experienced any life altering event or suffered great grief and loss, or someone who never has, it is a deep and inspiring movie full of depth and the power of the human spirit.

This is one of my favorite movies of the year, and I was stoked to be able to get it on Blu-ray. I just wish the company packaging it had as much enthusiasm. The case itself feels warped on the sides, and the printing of the front and back cover looks like it was printed off a very low-res version of what it should look like. More grainy than something I want to showcase nicely on a shelf.

All of that aside, the movie itself plays pretty pristine. There are some cool special feature interviews as well. I can deal with a little warped plastic.

What can I add that has not already been said. A small independent out of no where and small low budget at that wins several awards. Few have heard of this movie because of very limited promotion by Sony. The actor Brady Jandreau and Director Chloe Zhao would have received better recognition if Sony had more faith in this product. Sony could have trippled exposure by marketing movie to horse enthusiasts and as a Native American product. I even had trouble obtaining a copy from amazon. I paid $36 for a copy that was only available outside the country. Anyways, I did an internet search. I read that it is generally rare to see real actual techniques used to break difficult horses. In novels and elsewhere I read a high skill and special relationship are necessary. One of my favorite American novels “all the pretty horses” covered horse breaking, riding and harness very well. The author (name?) did plenty research to cover horsemanship by the Mexicans who then passed the art to native Americans. I had to see this movie. When I was living in San Francisco I had access to large number of indies big and small. In this hole of a town I’m living in now ... it’s a wasteland. I’m forced to use Amazon just to see it again and recommend to others.

I think some folks might like this flic, but since rodeo pretty much just exists on memories and longing for the romantic old days I couldn't see much point in the movie .

Before watching, I was surprised to see most reviews were either 5 stars or 1-2 stars. The complaints of the people who didn't like it were that it was slow and the acting was bad. I'd heard an interview with Brady on NPR and had been curious since.

The acting was not really acting. These were people being who they are. At first, I thought Lily was maybe not a great actor but then realized, no, she's just being who she is. And she is perfect as herself, just as all of the other actors are.

If you're looking for a big action packed sort of movie, this isn't it.

But if you're interested in a thoughtful slice of life from a culture that many aren't familiar with, this one delivers that and also leaves the viewer pondering big questions like, "when there is one thing you feel you were put on this earth to do, what happens when you lose that thing."

Also, the horse scenes were very real. I'd guess the horses in the movie that were not tame, truly weren't tame. You can't fake that look in their eyes.

It's heartbreaking. It's haunting. It's brave. It's beautiful. And this is my favorite movie that I've seen in a long time.

Thanks for The Ride, Chloé !
Achetez-le, louez-le mais, surtout, voyez-le !
