Great flat pedal!
5 Stars
Great flat pedal!
I wanted a larger platform than the Race Face Chesters that I had on my mountain unicycle previously. I "jump mount" onto my unicycles and the larger pedal makes it easier for my feet to land on them. The larger platform also reduces the amount of squirming I have to do with my feet to get into the right position while riding (if you ride a unicycle, you'll know what I'm talking about). I've had the pedals for over a year now and they've held up very well.

great pedals - love them

Two rides in and can totally see a difference! The feeling of being locked in and able to plow through rock gardens or navigating downhill on a technical terrain was a breeze. The wider pedal helped me focus less on how to position my foot. The longer pins dig deeper into my Five Ten Freerider’s making it harder for my foot to slip when hitting bumpy terrains. The only down side is the pedal strikes each time I was out. Because the pedals are thin, the false feeling that I’d float over boulders or step ups without striking them is silly. Still have to be mindful when going over things and narrow places. But man, I’ve never felt more confident since making this little upgrade. Highly recommend them.

I use these with the five ten shoes and they are so sticky! There’s a little arch in the middle, not enough to be noticiable when riding but enough that when you put your foot down it holds it in place. I love these pedals and they are fairly priced. I’ve had several pedal strikes and no issues with cracking or breaking but I did buy extra pins just in case.

I've tried a few flats - Neutron clones, Chesters, Deity T-Mac clones - but really nothing compares to these.
- I was a fan of grub screws and didn't really like the grip on Chesters with the 3mm pins. These solve it with 10, 3mm pins/side. Amazing grip. Mind=changed.
- I was a fan of aluminum pedals for durability and cost. These glide off rocks and are 1/3 the cost of comparable aluminum pedals. Mind=changed again.
- I'm old and I need grip on technical downhills, but there's always this "are you REALLY locked in on these pedals right before you hit that STEEP drop?" feeling right before you commit. With these? Lawd, I'm STUCK ON THE PEDALS. Mind=Changed yet again.
What do I like?
1. They glide off rocks. Took a HUGE hit last weekend on a technical trail - hard enough I thought the pedal would crack. I didn't even bend the pins. My aluminum pedals kind of "stick" when I hit a rock. These "pop" or "glide", kind of hard to explain unless you've done it.
2. They have incredible grip. Way better than grub screws with FiveTen Freeriders, and far better than comparable 3mm pin pedals. Lots of pins. Although the pedal is nylon, it is stiff.
3. They have a huge platform. The last set of pedals required me to be "just right" when putting my foot down. On these, it is impossible to miss the pedal. Great confidence on any kind of trail.
4. They are truly flat (almost convex). I originally favored "concave" pedals, where the ball of the foot found a pocket in the slight curve of the pedal. As I got more comfortable I realized that this just locked my foot into one position on the pedal. With these "flatter" flats I can put the ball of my foot further forward of the axle, which is better power. I can feel it on steep descents, steep climbs, and jumps.
What don't I like?
Hmmm. . . the packaging is utilitarian.

Price. I dare you to find a better price to performance ratio than these.
Color. Green. It's not easy being green. Unless you are these pedals.

Just get them.

Is the OneUp finally the pedal that ticks all the boxes??? Seems like it...
First impressions are excellent: they look good and modern (like the Crankbrothers Stamp 1, whereas the RaceFace Chester's design is a bit outdated) and they grip well (like the Chester, whereas the Stamp needs longer 12mm pins near the spindle, otherwise they slip), they seem to have good seals (like the Stamp, whereas Chesters tend to become brittle and crack) and finally the spindle/bearings are closed with an hex cap (Stamp uses a slotted cap which looks cheap and gets damaged easily). I will update this review - if I remember - after a few months of usage, to see how they hold up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grippy and solid - perfect for gravel riding

I bought these pedals after trying out a similar, less expensive off-brand pair on my DIY road bike upgrade build. I watched a few Youtube reviews that narrowed the field down to three products including these. These were given the nod for flattest profile and the most grip so I ordered.

And after a fair amount of autumn riding on my brand new Ribble CGR 725 gravel bike I can confidently assert that these are absolutely terrific pedals. They are indeed super grippy with every pair of shoes I've tried including my Five Ten Sleuth runners and some random hikers. They remain grippy in wet conditions, though losing a bit with the random hikers (not unexpected).

They are very solidly built, silent in operation, and give a great deal of confidence that they aren't going to fall apart under hard riding.

I would buy another pair of these for my next bike in an instant and highly recommend them.
