I thought I'd save some about $100 buying these instead of the Empires for commuting. Giro claims the only difference is the sole, where the Empires have carbon fiber, these have plastic.

Consistent with that, the only real difference I have noticed is that the soles do not feel as stiff as the Empires. It's something you might notice when you're out of the saddle to push over a hill, but commuting is not a race. Same wonderful comfortable shape of the sole and uppers as the Empires. I could wear these all day as my every day shoes.

Nice touches: the cleats are recessed enough so that you do not clickety-clack when walking. And there is a nice elastic band to hold the laces in place so that they don't get caught in your chain.

11 is a size 44 European which doesn’t seem right. The scales I’ve seen show 11=45.

Love the style though and look like they’re high quality. Unfortunately I have to return them since they’re too tight.

Great shoe, fits true to size, nice shoe that is reasonably stiff but still good for getting off the bike to walk/hike.Only reason for 4 stars is the shoelace ripped when I was pulling them tight to tie them after only about a month of getting them!

These are my first biking shoes (just moved to clipless pedals), and I am very pleased! You would probably want a different pair of you’re doing 100km road trips, but these are perfect for riding around the city and bike trails on my gravel bike. A big plus is that the shoes look and function enough like regular sneakers you can pop into the store or pub with them on. (I have them paired with a pair of Crank Bros Candy 2 pedals.)

These shoes feel great and fit perfectly. I ride in hot environments typically and have not had problems with my feet overheating. When riding in heavy rain and through puddles, they will fill with water pretty quickly.

These shoes are so comfortable. I have been commuting daily in them for about a month. They are great to walk in of you have to walk. They are pretty water resistant. I live in the PNW and have worn them in heavy spring downpours and your feet get very slightly wet. Anything less than that and I wouldn't worry about it.

Love the shoes all around, but the sole is quite flexible. I've got some Giro Empire shoes, and the two soles are very noticeably different. I'm sure there's a rationale here - I think some 'cross riders like a softer sole - but these are quite a bit too floppy for my taste. That said, I'll continue to ride them. They are a solid product, and this is just a preference.
